There was a collective groan as he frowned.

“Fuckers,” he muttered.

“Where’s Summer?” Alice asked, frowning.

“She’s in Europe, remember?” Gretchen said as Alice folded her arms grumpily.

“Hmm. All those hot European men...”

I noticed Caleb shoot her a look as he leaned forward, his shirt straining to keep his ripped body within.

“Speaking of hot European men, how is Mr. Deacon?”

“I don’t know what you mean.” Alice smiled sweetly as Cal glared at her.

“Isn’t he in his forties?” Cal barked as Caleb sat back, winking at Alice. She stuck her tongue out at him as Zane sighed, standing up suddenly.

“Can wenotstart this? We have guests.” Zane nodded at the food on the grill.

My eyes refused to obey the instruction, and my brain was screaming at them. I couldn’t stop staring at him.

“He’s not in his forties, he’s thirty-six. Pretty successful too,” Alice shot back as Cal glowered at her.

“Twice your age, my princess. Don’t get any ideas.”

“Yeah, like that girl from those books, Jade.” Caleb winked as Jade chuckled.

“Fifty Shades Of Grey?”

“Yeah, that’s it.” I noticed he had his hand on her thigh permanently, his eyes drinking her in as she spoke. She kissed him, and it quickly deepened in front of us.

“Ew. Get a room. There’s five upstairs,” groaned Alice as Jade bit her lip.

“Good idea. Jade, let’s go and find my old bedroom...” Caleb pulled her over his shoulder in a fireman’s lift as she squealed. My mouth fell open as they reached the house, Jade running away as Caleb chased her.

Surely they aren’t going to have sex here? At a family barbecue?

My eyes met Zane’s again, and he looked away with a smile.

“Fucking great. Well, if the need strikes...” Cal shrugged as my mother shook her head.

“Before you know it, you’ll be having grandbabies running around the house.” Mom laughed, Gretchen’s face draining of color.

“Oh god.”

“Not from you, though. You’re too young,” said Cal in a cheerful tone, nodding at Alice.

“Why are you directing that at me? What about Zane?” Alice argued as Cal threw his head back in laughter.

“Good one.” Cal chuckled as Zane closed his eyes.

What had I missed?

“So tell me about Steve!” Gretchen said with a warm smile.

I was blank for a moment before I found my tongue.

“Steve was a customer of Dad’s...we began dating quite quickly after meeting.” I shrugged, not wanting to elaborate. I was a private person and didn’t want to give all the juicy details.
