LAYLA

A barbecue at the Fallons wasalwaysgoing to be eventful.

Cal, Caleb, and Zane were like walking Gods. It didn’t matter what your type was; they would undoubtedly tick a box somehow. Mom said everyone fancied Cal way back when I knew the same applied for the younger two.

The problem was, they knew it.

My eyes met his again, and my stomach lurched.

Zane Fallon.

He was by far the most attractive. He was utterly flawless and incredibly intelligent to boot. Everyone at school had decided he was gay, and I think they were probably right. He never had a girlfriend, never slept around, and was super sweet. He showed zero interest in any girl, so he was naturally classed as gay. He resisted the charms of Cassandra Demar for a start- and she hadnotbeen impressed.

“Layla, spill the details!” Gretchen elbowed me as I smiled to myself.

“His name is Steve. We met through work.” I shrugged, not wanting to have this conversation.

I hated the attention on me, and right now, everyone was staring at me. I shifted uncomfortably as I heard the door slam and heels click across the floor.

Suddenly we were greeted by icy green eyes and the same shocking blonde hair as Zane.

“Where’s the fire, Dad?” Alice drawled as Gretchen chuckled softly.

Alice Fallon.

Bad girl. Bad bitch. Hot.

Sometimes I wonderedhowshe was Zane’s twin. Internally, they couldn’t be more different.

“Where thefuckhave you been?” Cal asked, frowning in her direction.

“Work,” Alice said airily, and I raised my eyebrows in surprise.

Alice had a job? Surely she was joking.

“How did you get home?” Cal barked suddenly, Gretchen tensed as she looked at her daughter.

“Mr. Deacon has given me a car for my personal use.” Alice smirked, stealing a cherry tomato from the table.

“I bet he fucking has,” Cal muttered when Caleb spoke.

“You can’t even drive.”

“It has adriver, dear brother. Hey, Zee.”

Alice wandered over to her twin, who smiled at her, making my insides turn to jelly. She sat beside him, and I gazed at them- a vision of beauty if you’ve ever seen one.

“Layla is here.” Gretchen reminded Alice as her emerald gaze flickered over me.

“Wow. You look amazing. Australia must’ve treated you well,” Alice murmured as my cheeks burned.

“It’s given her a fiancée.” My mom beamed, making me groan inwardly.

“A fiancée? But you’re eighteen,” Alice stated, as I shrugged.

“I suppose when you know, you know,” Zane said softly, his green eyes meeting mine for the millionth time. I smiled at him gratefully as Cal pointed his spatula at Alice.

“You can’t help falling in love. It just happens.”
