“You're a good-looking bastard. You know that?" I flexed my muscles as he walked away, smirking at me. "Youdoknow that. There lies the problem."

"Love you, too, Pop," I drawled as he left my room.

"Oh, I love you more, son."

I smiled to myself, picking up my phone. It was barely six a.m. "For fuck's sake, Dad!"

CHAPTER 8

CALEB

Ithrew my bag in the car as my parents watched me from the doorway, a look of adoration on their faces. I slipped on my sunglasses as I leaned against my car, hollering for the twins to haul ass.

“Why are you two staring at me in that weird way?” I groaned, folding my arms.

“It’s not weird; we love you!” Mom protested as my dad tugged her close, laughing as I made a face.

“Dad has the day off; now I see why you’re both in such a good mood,” I smirked as Mom reddened, tutting at me in despair.

“You’ve got a dirty mind, Caleb.” My dad grinned while dropping kisses on Mom’s mouth. It didn’t seem to matter that I was standing right there. He just carried on regardless.

“For fuck’s sake.Thisis why I can’t bring a girl home. You two are fuckingweird. You realize you’re almost fifty?” I complained. Dad ignored me, hoisting my mom up into his arms as she giggled girlishly.

“Have a good day at school, guys,” Dad called over his shoulder, carrying Mom bridal style into the house, as Zane and Alice watched in horror.

“Why are they like that?” grumbled Alice to Zane as she pushed past me, clearly still not speaking to me.

Zane shrugged at me and slid in the seat beside Alice, which he always did whenever they both rode with me. They were a lot closer than Summer and I ever were, and I sometimes envied their bond. I got into the car and hit play on Spotify from my phone, relieved when the music broke the awkward silence. I glanced in the rearview mirror as I drove, noticing Zane speaking to himself with his eyes closed.

“You alright, Zane? Should I be concerned?” I laughed as he opened his eyes to grin at me.

“I’m rehearsing.”

Of course, he was. Zane had wanted to be an actor since he could walk and talk, always putting on shows and re-enacting scenes from films to entertain us.

“Okay, I’ll leave you be. You’re still not speaking to me, princess?” A stony silence met me as Alice stared out of the window. “You know it’s because I love you, right?” I said.

She continued to stare out of the window as if I hadn’t spoken at all.

“Fine. Be that way.”

I finally reached school, dropping them off first.

“Thanks, Cale,” mumbled Zane as he left, running after his twin, who had exited before him wordlessly. I sighed to myself as I watched them walk in, Zane taking my side as Alice turned her steely green gaze to me, shaking her head firmly.

I could live with that—at least she won’t get knocked up at fourteen. I headed to my end of the school, parking my car in the nearest spot to the entrance. I grabbed my backpack and sighed as I strode up the path, hearing someone behind me.

“Hey, handsome.”

I turned to see Summer grinning at me, Jade by her side. I tried not to stare at the way Jade’s uniform clung to her curves in all the right places. “Hey,” I murmured as Summer linked her arm with mine.

“Did you miss me?”

“Always,” I drawled as she rolled her eyes at Jade, who shrugged.

“Did you miss me, Jade?” I quipped as she flushed under my gaze. I couldn’t help but tease her; it was just too cute the way she blushed.

“Like a hole in the head. It looks like someone is waiting for you,” Jade said sweetly, nodding behind me as I groaned inwardly.
