“Yes, tonight. I should be out by the weekend”.
“Oh no! So only a couple more days. I’ll be sad to see you go. How about Friday we have a family dinner. Your last dinner here.”
“Sounds great.”
“Bye-bye, stepbrother, don’t let the door hit ya.” Violet throws me a wink.
“Violet, it’s good to see one of our kids actually make some grown up decisions. You’re threatening to leave all the time, I’m waiting to see that trigger be pulled.”
“I’ll give you a day Mum. How does Saturday sound?”
Fuck yes, I want to shout it, grab her and never let go. But Claire being here stops me in my tracks.
She had her reservations, but Claire just pushed her into our arms without knowing.Thank you, Claire, I think as a crooked grin claims my mouth.
“And where are you moving to? With what money? Again, your future is gone without James.”
“What is it with you and James and my future.”
This could end badly. I should definitely put a stop to it. But I like watching Violet stand up for herself.
She doesn’t give any time for her mum to respond, “Doesn’t matter does it? I’ve given you a day.” And with that, she storms off.
Their relationship is different, to say the least. Doesn’t seem like Violet can do anything right. And Claire somehow reminds her.
But I don’t dwell on that because she’s moving in.
“Sorry you had to see that, Landon.”
“No problem, Claire, but I might just go to the guys’ place.”
“That’s probably for the best. If I know my daughter, and I do, she won’t come out of her room for the rest of the night. It’s like dealing with a toddler.” She rolls her eyes and walks off.
I get outside and pull out my phone to message Violet to come with me but before I can there she is, sitting on the hood waiting for me.
Walking over to her, I take her chin between my forefinger and thumb tilting her head back so she’s looking up at me. “Good girl.” Then I plant a kiss on those full, perfect lips.
“Can I come with you?”
I don't reply just offer my hand, helping her down from the hood of my car and into the passenger seat. We sit in comfortable silence as the radio plays, and we make our way to the guy's house.
I let myself into the house with Violet right behind me.
“Want a beer?” Maverick asks in a way of a greeting.
I can't reply because he notices Violet.
“Fuck if you aren’t a sight for sore eyes Little one.”
“I saw you a few hours ago.”
“Want to explain Maverick?” I cock my eyebrow at him.
He shrugs. “I missed her, so I went to campus to see her.”
“And fuck her, I bet.” Axel says, stepping into the room. Violet blushes and that means yes, yes, he did fuck her.
“I don’t fuck and tell.”
