Then there was me. Waiting for my Rosebud to come home.

The only thing I knew was that if she didn’t make it here, I’d kill every last motherfucker in this world until only the horsemen stood. And then, I’d kill us so we could be with her.

That’s how fucking far I was willing to go to keep us together.

Istared up at the De Santis mansion, exhaling, my heart thrumming wildly. I wasn’t sure of the reasoning for just me coming since I knew damn well Anson could take her out of this place and bring her home. His car had made it here because it sat off to the side of the house.

I wasn’t sure if I’d be coming home after this. It was Matteo, and I’d made a deal with him that I hadn’t followed through on.

It didn’t matter. As long as Rosalie made it out, nothing else mattered.

Steeling myself, I got out of the car. Four big, hulking men met me before I’d even put two feet on the ground.

“Constantino De Santis?” One of the men grunted out.

I swallowed hard. I supposed that was, or would be, my name.

“Yes,” I answered tightly.

“This way. Matteo is expecting you.”

I followed the men to the door, and they stopped me.

“Weapons.”

I reached into my jacket, pulled out the nine I had on me, and handed it over before I got the pat down. Satisfied, they led me inside.

If I thought our place was nice, it was nothing compared to what Matteo De Santis had. It was beyond lavish. Ivory. Crystal. Marble. Everything was decked out.

I expected to find Rosalie waiting for me and ready to jump into my arms. However, she was nowhere to be found. Feeling uneasy, I followed the men to a door. One of the guys rapped on it, and Alessio Valentino, Vincent’s father, opened it. He stepped aside, allowing me to enter.

And again, no Rosalie.

Matteo sat at his desk, Klaus behind him. I walked forward, and Matteo nodded for me to sit. I did so, definitely wanting to get Rosalie and just get the hell out of there.

“Where is Rosalie?” I asked.

“She will be here shortly,” Matteo said.

I breathed out. “What is it that you want from me?”

Matteo surveyed me for a moment. “I’m only curious if you still have the coin I gave you.”

“I have it,” I said tightly. “Do you want it back?”

Matteo chuckled. “I will get it back once you’re dead, so no worries.”

I said nothing as he continued to watch me.

“How is Santino? I never hear from him.”

I sighed. “Look, I don’t have time for idle chit-chat. You and I had a deal. I’d push the coin when I was ready. I’m not. I’m simply here to get my girl and leave. That’s it.”

Matteo tapped his fingers on his desk for a moment before speaking.
