Now I moved closer and snuggled into his arms. As I soaked up the feel of him, I smiled against his shirt. "You know what?"

"What?"

"If you'rereallygood, maybe I'll let you have a bite."

He gave a mock shudder. "Of the fruitcake?"

"No." I pulled back to gaze into his eyes. "Of me." But then I glanced toward his pelvis. "On second thought, maybeI'lltake a bite out ofyou."

He made a show of looking concerned. "Did you say bite?"

"Well…I might nibble a little." I grinned. "But trust me, you won't be complaining."

He grinned back. "Nowthat'san offer I can't refuse."

An hour later, we were sated, happy, and just a little damp. After doing some mutual nibbling and a whole lot more, we'd taken a shower together and were in the process of getting dressed when the front doorbell rang.

As I yanked up my jeans, I looked to Bryce, who was standing near the bed in only his briefs. "Are you expecting someone?"

"Just the pizza."

"What pizza?"

"I scheduled a delivery for five. You said you were craving it, right?"

I smiled. "Yeah, but I didn't know you ordered one. That's really nice, by the way." I glanced in the general direction of the front door. "Do you want me to get it?" Unlike Bryce, I was now fully dressed, well aside from my feet, which remained bare.

"If you don't mind," he said. "It's already paid and tipped, so you've just got to grab it before they take off."

This was all the encouragement I needed. I turned and hustled to the living room, preparing to find something warm and delicious.

What I found instead was something a whole lot different.

Chapter 30

Harper

From the front porch, Myra Tuttle stared at me like I'd just answered the door buck-naked. Without pausing to say hello, she demanded, "What areyoudoing here?"

Well, this was embarrassing. The last time I'd talked to Myra was several weeks ago when I'd called her with my concerns about the renter. "I'm um, visiting, actually."

Myra was tall and curvy with thick brown hair that fell just past her shoulders. Tonight, she wore a red business suit with a rhinestone Christmas tree broach pinned to her lapel.

With a look that was anything but festive, she eyed me up and down, taking in my damp hair and bare feet. "Oh, my God. Did you actually shower here?"

I crossed my arms. "I don't think that's any of your business."

She gave a dramatic groan. "IknewI should have changed the locks."

Talk about insulting."Onmyhouse?"

"Yeah, but it'snotyour house, is it?" She made a scoffing sound. "I can't believe we're having this conversationagain."

I looked at the thing in her hands. "AndIcan't believe you're delivering pizza."

She looked insulted by the suggestion. "It's not a pizza. It's a cookie."

Seriously?"So, why'd you put it in a pizza box?"
