"What?" He laughed. "And miss all the fun?"

I looked up. "It wasn't 'fun.' It was mostly embarrassing. I mean, seriously, how wouldyoulike to hear that you're notmytype?" I held up a hand. "Wait, don't answer that."

"Why not?"

"Because based on what I overheard, you wouldn't care either way."

"Oh, I'd care," he said.

I practically snorted. "Why?"

His gaze warmed as he said in a surprisingly tender voice, "Because you're exactly my type."

I blinked. "What?"

"Don't look so surprised," he said. "I already said I liked you."

"Yeah, but you probably like Christmas trees, too."

"So?"

"So, it doesn't mean you want to sleep with them."

"True. But you're not a Christmas tree."

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. "IknowI’m not a Christmas tree. I'm just saying…" My words trailed off into silence as I struggled to put my feelings into words.

With obvious amusement, he asked, "Yes?"

"Oh, forget it," I said. "I don't even know what I'm talking about."

His amusement faded. "I know. And that's why I’m not jumping you."

I gave a bark of nervous laughter. "Oh, sothat'syour idea of seduction. Jumping me?"

He shrugged. "Eh, I meant jumping in the figurative sense." And then, to my surprise, he reached out and took my hand in his. "But I wasn't lying. Idolike you. A lot."

I swallowed. "Really?"

"Really," he said. "Which means I'm not gonna rush into bed when you're so nervous about it."

I'd been nervous with other guys, too. This hadn't stopped any ofthem."But why?"

"Maybe I don't want you to regret it."

"So you think I'd regret it?"

"Maybe."

"But the wayyoutalked, I'd have nothing to regret." I gave an awkward laugh. "You know, with you being so good at that whole 'seduction' thing."

But Drake wasn't laughing. "Sure, maybe you wouldn't regret it today. But what about tomorrow?"

"Well…" I gave it some thought. "I wouldn’t regret it if it was good."

Again, he studied my face. "You sure about that?"

"Of course." But then, I hesitated. "Probably. I mean, nobody evertrulyknows how they'll feel the next day, right?"
