"Thatwasthe address I had."
"From what? Mypersonnelfile?" She stiffened. "At work?"
When I started to reply, she cut me off. "So let me get this straight. You looked up my address and drove by without asking?"
I wasn't proud of what I'd done. But I wasn't ashamed either. "I didn'thaveto look it up," I said. "You gave it to me."
"Oh, please. I did not."
I almost smiled. "Wanna bet?"
Her chin jerked upward. "Sure, if you don’t mind losing."
I didn't like to lose, and I didn't plan to now. I reached into the pocket of my coat and pulled out my cell phone. I scrolled through the contacts and selected Lexie's name.
When her information appeared on the screen, I turned the phone outward so she could see for herself. "You wanna read it? Or do you want me to?"
By now, I could recite it from memory. After our first date, Lexie had sent me her contact information in a single listing from her cell phone to mine. The listing had included her full name, her cell phone number, her home address, and a selfie of her smiling face.
But she wasn't smilingnow. She studied the screen for a long moment before saying, "Oh."
I had to say it. "So I win, huh?"
She looked up. "You win what?"
I shoved the phone back into my pocket. "The bet."
"Yeah, well…we didn't bet anything so it doesn't count. And I still don't know why you did that."
"Did what?" I laughed. "Make a bet?"
"No. Drive by my house."
Lexie was smart.She knew.
When I answered with only a look, she said, "So…you thought I was cheating on you or something?"
"On me? No." My chest tightened at the thought of Lexie with another guy. "As you said, we weren't exclusive."
"But you still thought I was a cheater."
I shrugged. "I didn't know what to think."
"Yeah, well…that 'exclusive' thing…I didn't mean it the way it sounded."
"Didn't you?"
"Of course not." She blew out a long, unsteady breath. "I was just feeling funny, that's all."
She'd been acting funny, too."Funny how?" I asked.
"Well…if Ihadto say, I guess I felt like a traitor."
This wasn't a surprise. "To Grampkin."
"I guess."
"Fair enough. You wanna know whatIwas feeling?"
