"Of course, it would be a problem," I said. "She doesn't even like kids."
"Yeah, but she likesme."
"But so what?" I said. "You'renot the one who needs a nanny."
He gave something like a shrug. "Well, she couldn’t be much worse than the last one."
"Oh, my God," I groaned. "You're not seriously thinking about it?"
He said nothing, but his look said it all.
Hewasthinking about it.
What the heck?
Was the guy off his rocker?
Chapter 7
Mason
Cami glared up at me like I'd just suggested hiring Jack the Ripper.
I liked that about her.Already, she was more protective of Willow than the last three nannies combined.
This confirmed what I already knew.I'd made the right choice.I just needed to makehersee it the wayIdid.
It was time for the stick.
"Listen," I said, "I'm hiringsomeonewhile I'm here. It's either you or your friend."This wasn't a lie. That someone would be Cami, whether she realized it or not.
"Oh come on!" Cami said. "You're joking."
"So tell me," I said. "Do you think your friend can start tomorrow?"
"Hah! You don't even know her name."
"Yeah, so?"
"Well, shouldn't youknowsomeone's name before you hire them?"
"Eh, names aren't important."
"But what about Willow?" Cami said. "I knowshe'simportant to you."
Yeah, she was. This explained why I'd driven nearly three hours to see Cami in person –andwhy I was willing to fight dirty to make her say yes.
I replied, "Hey, if you're worried, you can take the job yourself. It's still open."
Her eyes narrowed. "I know what you're doing."
"Do you?"
"Yes. You're trying to manipulate me."
"Am I?"
"Definitely. Because Iknowyou wouldn’treallyhire Livia."
