Chuckling softly, I nod my head. “Yeah, the Assistant Director told me about it. But only that it was a rumor, no evidence of it.”

“You think I’m stupid enough to leave evidence behind?” she questions in a teasing tone.

“Not at all.” Releasing a shuddering sigh, I ask her, “What the actual fuck am I meant to do, Dutch? My niece witnessed her parents being killed. And not just killed, but slaughtered. She was in this fucking horror house for years, obviously being raped repeatedly. And you saw that basement. There’s no way those children weren’t being tortured as well. Now I find out she had a baby that was locked in a cage? And I’m supposed to stop her from killing the people that did this to her?”

Dutch puts her arm around me, pulling me into her side. “I get it, honestly. My father is part of all of this, I just know it. I’ve been wanting to destroy him and his empire for years. Maybe—” she stops, a considering look crossing her face.

“Maybe what?”

Her lips curl up into a smile that wouldn’t look amiss on Harley Quinn. “Maybe we just, well, let it slide a little? Not be in such a hurry to find her?”

“I don’t want to lose my job,” I inform her. “I do actually like being an FBI agent.”

Dutch barks a laugh. “Look, there’s this guy with her, right? This Trey Williams person? Maybe he’s the one doing the killing. I don’t know. Maybe we can help them somehow. Get them out of the country.”

“Maybe,” I reply, thinking over her words. I’ve missed out on the last eleven years of Charlotte's life; I don’t want to miss out on more. And if I help her escape, I’ll likely never see her again.

You have to keep her alive,a little voice whispers to me.If you don’t help her, she’ll go to prison for the rest of her life. How does she deserve that?

She doesn’t.

Fuck, I wish Tessa was still alive. She’d maybe have an idea of what to do in this situation.

The man paces around the small room, fury coursing through him.

“What’s the matter with you?” the other man asks with a frown on his face.

“You’ll never believe who just showed up in the database.”

The other man gets up and sits down in front of the computer. “Ah, I see. Well, that’s a surprise.”

The man barks a laugh, running his hands through his golden-brown hair. “Do you think he’ll be a problem?”

“Fuck if I know. Maybe? He seems a little busy though.”

“True,” the man replies.

“Why don’t you phone The Duke? See if she’ll get a team out to Arizona to keep an eye on the situation?”

The man considers this, his amber eyes clashing with the silver ones of his brother.

“I’m going out there,” Nate says with a decisive tone. “Take Tessa and go to London. What we’ve got going on there is way too important to lose time on. The meeting with the heads of the trafficking ring is coming up in a few months, and we need to be ready.”

Eric sits back in his seat, eyeing Nate. “While I agree that we need to keep moving forward with this, why do you want to go after The Unseen?”

Nate’s mouth curls up into a smirk. “He’s good at what he does, I’ll admit that much. He knows the ropes, and he’s almost as good as you on the computer.”

“No one is as good as him,”Tessa says as she walks into the room, leaning up to kiss Nate, and then doing the same to Eric. Eric beams up at her with hearts in his eyes.

Nate sighs. “Look, as much trouble as we had with him, he’s on the ground killing pedophiles. We can use him for the London job. No matter how good we are, we can’t take down fifty-six of the fuckers on our own.”

Eric ponders this for a moment, then slowly nods his head. “Okay, I’m on board. Tessa?”
