I stop her as soon as we reach the door, my brain scrambling to figure out my next move, when I hear another familiar voice moaning Sebastián’s name. No, it can’t be. Now I really must be hallucinating. But before I can finish that thought, I find myself pushing past Nikki and turning the door knob, the bedroom door flying wide open.

WHAT THE FUCK.

Christine Villanueva. My co-worker and frenemy, clearly more enemy than friend, is riding my fiancé like it’s her last goddamn rodeo.

“Oh shit! Amelia, this isn’t what it looks like!” Sebastián screeches as he bucks a very naked Christine off of him.

“Oh really, cause it looks like this chick was riding your dick into oblivion, you asshole,” Nikki yells as Christine makes her way off the bed and pulls the bed sheet over her head. Yes, over her head as if I magically can’t see her.

It feels as though all the blood in my body has pooled at my feet, and I am frozen in place. I sense my throat clenching shut, leaving me unable to speak. My eyes are brimmed with tears and a look of bewilderment is plastered on my face taking in the scene that lays before me.

“¡Amelia, mi amor! Don’t cry. I’m sorry, I made a mistake!” he says as he fumbles to put on a pair of dress pants and wobbles his way towards me.

“Don’t you even think about getting near her you asshat! And how about you focus on Casper the friendly ghost over there?” She points at Christine, who is still standing like a statue with a sheet covering her whole body. “Hello, yoohoo, we can see you, lady with the mermaid tramp stamp!” Nikki croons.

Just as Sebastián is closing the space between us, I muster up the ability to speak for the first time.

“W–why? How long?” I sniffle, tears now streaming down my face uncontrollably. “And for fuck’s sake Christine, take that stupid sheet off your head before I do it myself!” I scream.

Christine slowly pulls the sheet down until her face is revealed. I’m surprised when her facial expressions show annoyance, rather than embarrassment.

“You said she wasn’t supposed to be here this weekend, I knew we should have gone back to my place,” she whisper shouts at Sebastián.

This bitch …

I hear a thud by the front door and we all turn to see Antonio with a confused look on his face. He takes the scene in for one more second, and I see it all click in his mind. “You’re a dead man!” Antonio charges towards Sebastián, making it to our bedroom in three purposeful strides.

My brother Antonio is a beast. He’s like a Dominican version of DwayneThe RockJohnson, but with hair. He’s an NYPD officer and practically lives in the gym. And he also likes to box and practice mixed martial arts for fun. So yeah, Sebastián just might meet his maker if I don’t intercept.

I put myself between them to prevent turning this nightmare into a murder scene. “Antonio, stop!” My voice cracks through the tears.

Antonio tries to push past me, and even Nikki realizes that the bloodshed would be bad, so she helps me block his path.

“Listen to your sister Tony, don’t think your friends in blue are gonna like seeing you in lock up,” Nikki warns.

I grab Antonio’s face with my hands and force him to look at me. “Por favor. Stop! Let me handle this! I can’t lose you too. I can’t let you get fired, or worse—arrested,” I plead.

Antonio pants like a bull, eyes looking up to Sebastián who is cowering by the bed behind me. “Fine. But I need him out of this apartment. NOW!” His shout shakes the small apartment.

Nikki is able to grab Antonio’s hand, causing his attention to shift to her. “Come on big boy. Let’s stand by the kitchen and give the sleaze bag a clear path so he can leave with his skank.” Antonio rolls his eyes at her absurdity then nods, allowing Nikki to guide him away from Sebastián.

“Okay. You heard him. Get out,” I say with venom in my voice.

He is clearly dumber than I thought, because he takes a chance, and grabs my hand to plead for forgiveness, one more time. “Amelia. I’ll go, but please, can we just—” Oof.

I tap into the self defense training Antonio taught me last year, and give Sebastián a nice knee to his crown jewels. Followed by a sharp elbow to the back of his head, causing him to plummet to the ground. Christine shrieks in the background.

“On second thought, I’ll leave. I’ll be back in an hour to pack my stuff. With Antonio. So make yourself scarce unless you want to go for round two. And I’m not referring to your bimbo booty call,” I say to a withering Sebastián on the ground.

Sebastián moans in pain, while in fetal position, holding on to his privates.Good luck with those now, Christine.

“Come on, let’s get out of here before I ask for my turn,” Nikki says as she locks her arm with mine.

I walk out the front door and stop to give one final look into the catastrophe I just walked into. In a matter of minutes, my love story came crashing down.

Sebastián will no longer be my husband, or the father of my children. I will not be married or a mother in the timeframe I have always imagined. And my mother will never get the chance to meet my future husband.

Goodbye old life. Hello rock bottom.
