“B.T. Construction isn’t yours yet,” Quinn pointed out even as he couldn’t help but wonder if they’d have their first child by then. He couldn’t wait to be a father, just the thought of holding his child nearly fucking wrecked him, but he’d be lying if he said that he was ready to lose this part of the deal.

Once Dylan was pregnant…

Christ, he didn’t think he’d survive without touching her.

“It’s only a matter of time,” Brooke said with that same smug smile that Jenn was wearing, making him wonder how he’d missed the fact that she was a bitch. The signs were all there, but he saw what he wanted to see and ended with him getting fucked over in the process.

“With our parents’ thirtieth anniversary coming up, I thought it would be the perfect time for you to publicly throw in the towel,” Brooke said as her expression turned pitying.

“I could always buy it from you,” Quinn drawled, playing along.

For now.

“You could, but I’m not going to sell it to you,” Brooke said, confirming one of his earlier suspicions.

“And why is that?” Quinn asked, already having a pretty good idea why.

“Because I hate you?” Brooke asked, blinking at him.

Nodding, Quinn asked, “Is there anything else that you needed before I kick you out?”

“Besides wondering why you hired Dylan without my permission?” Brooke demanded.

“You really didn’t leave me with a choice considering out father’s stipulations. Dylan has a job here as long as wants it,” he drawled, making sure to sound bored since the last thing that they needed right now was to clue her into what they were really up to.

“Fair enough,” Brooke murmured. “Then, I want to know why you’re wasting B.T. Construction’s resources on this dump.”

“Last time I checked, I was in charge of deciding which jobs B.T. Construction takes,” Quinn drawled as he opened the cooler and placed everything Dylan packed for him in the fridge.

“Not when you’re taking away B.T. Construction’s valuable assets from paying clients,” Brooke said with a triumphantgleam in her eye as Jenn tossed a white envelope on Quinn’s desk.

“What’s that?” Quinn asked as he grabbed the Tupperware of homemade cookies that Dylan made for him and-

“It’s an injunction,” Jenn said as he grabbed the bottle of chocolate milk that Dylan packed to go with it and made his way to his desk.

“For?” Quinn asked, placing everything on his desk before he sat down and helped himself to a cookie.

“You’re using B.T. Construction employees, equipment, and materials for a project that isn’t on the books, isn’t paying market rate, and is taking resources away from paying clients. That’s theft, Quinn, and Miss Thomas has every right to file an injunction immediately to stop it before you drain B.T. Construction dry,” Jenn said with a triumphant gleam in her eye.

“Meaning?” Quinn asked, not bothering to look at the injunction as he took another bite.

“You’re using B.T. Construction employees, equipment, and materials for a private project that belongs to Dylan, an hourly employee with zero executive privileges. She doesn’t have access to the at-cost labor clause in your employment contract, and as far as the company is concerned, she’s just like any other client. Which means she pays full market rate, not whatever sweetheart deal you’ve worked out. That makes this theft of company resources, and we want it shut down today,” Jenn said in a tone that was probably meant to scare him.

“That does sound serious,” Quinn said with a heartfelt sigh.

“That’s because it is,” Jenn murmured with a pointed look at the envelope.

“There’s just one problem with that,” Quinn said, finishing off the cookie before reaching for another one.

“And what’s that?” Brooke asked, looking really fucking smug for someone who was about to lose everything.

“Blackwood Manor is mine.”

CHAPTER 20

“Don’t puke. Don’t puke. Don’t puke. Don’t-” Dylan mumbled frantically as her grip tightened around the steering wheel only to decide that talking wasn’t helping.

In fact, some might argue that it was making it worse. A lot worse, Dylan decided as the nausea that had been threatening to knock her on her ass since she made the mistake of having that second helping of scrambled eggs this morning had her slumping over onto her side with a groan.
