“If what worked?” Quinn asked as she placed her hands on the bed on either side of his head, the move causing her to shift against him and making it really fucking difficult to focus right now.

“Getting to know each other,” Dylan said as he placed his hands on her thighs.

“Is that what we did today?” he asked, running his hands over smooth, warm skin and couldn’t help but wonder if he’d ever felt anything this good before.

“We bonded over our love of Snuggles,” she said, making him glare.

“You really are a pain in the-” Quinn started to say only to have Dylan press her finger against his lips with a softly whispered, “Shhhh,” as he narrowed his eyes on her.

“I can feel you glaring,” Dylan said teasingly before she leaned down and kissed his forehead as she pulled her finger away.

“This is just a deal, Dylan. Nothing more,” Quinn reminded her.

“It’s just a deal,” Dylan whispered in agreement as she kissed his chin and then-

Tore a soft groan from him as he felt her hesitate just before she brushed her lips against his in a barely-there whisper.

“Did it work?” Quinn asked as he reached up and cupped her face in his hands.

“I’m not sure yet,” Dylan said, taking her time moving her lips against his, every teasing brush of her lips against his became firmer until she took him by surprise with a soft moan and brushed her lips against his one more time, using the move to part his lips and-

Oh, fuck…

The first gentle caress of her tongue against his left him groaning, the second had him struggling not to lose his fucking mind as he felt his cock harden against her, and the third…

Had him wondering why he hadn’t kissed her sooner.

Within seconds, the kiss was out of control and-

“I think we’re making progress,” Dylan said, breaking off the kiss and leaving them both struggling to catch their breath.

“Do you need more time?” Quinn managed to get out, struggling to remember why they were doing this.

Swallowing hard, Dylan nodded, the move causing her lips to brush against his and-

“Goodnight, Quinn,” Dylan said, climbing off his lap and headed for the door, leaving him lying there, struggling to catch his breath as he closed his eyes and-

She was going to be the death of him.

CHAPTER 15

She wanted to kiss him again.

Out of curiosity, of course, Dylan decided even as she couldn’t help but wonder if she’d imagined that kiss. She’d never been kissed like that before. Never thought that a kiss could feel that good and now…

Now, she couldn’t help but wonder what she was thinking when she’d agreed to amend their deal. Not that he’d left her with much of a choice in the matter, not once he pulled out that box of donuts with double chocolate donuts, apple fritters, and an assortment of baked deliciousness that he knew damn well that she wouldn’t be able to resist first thing in the morning.

If it hadn’t been for that apple cinnamon donut with its extra delicious apple filling, none of this would have ever happened. But unfortunately for her, the bastard knew what he was doing, Dylan thought, releasing a snort of disgust as she slowly took in the large office that was now hers from the built-in shelves to the cabinets, and finally, the large oak desk that looked like it had never been used before.

The office that he’d built for Jenn was now hers and-

This would never do, Dylan decided as she shifted her backpack over her shoulder and made her way back to thehallway, where she released a heartfelt sigh as she debated her next move. Thanks to her love of baked goods, she was now stuck here for the next five months or until it was safe for her to set foot inside Blackwood Manor, whichever came first.

She’d reluctantly agreed to stay away from Blackwood Manor while they did everything they could to save it. Knowing that she really didn’t have a choice, mostly because of the large bastard, who’d decided to act like the kiss never happened last night threatened to stop work if she so much as looked at Blackwood Manor, she’d agreed to his new terms.

While she’d nibbled on the incredibly delicious apple donut that helped her accept her new fate in life, she’d resigned herself to focusing on B.T. Construction and annoying Quinn to help pass the time only to find out the rest of his new terms. Instead of working on site in Quinn’s trailer, she was stuck here in this insanely large house that just felt…cold.

There was no other way to describe it.
