I nodded, my face brushing his chest.
His fingers brushed through my hair lightly as my eyelids grew heavier.
“Thanks for saving me,” I whispered.
“I think you’re the one who saved me,” he admitted.
“That’s cheesy.”
“Might as well start calling meCheddar.”
When I snorted, he kissed me lightly on the lips.
“Go to sleep, Madi.”
“I’m already healed.”
“I know. I just want you to get enough rest.”
“I don’t know why you’re so worried about it.” My mumble was barely audible, but somehow, he made it out.
“I love you, remember?” He tugged a few strands of my hair playfully.
“I love you too.”
He went still.
A moment passed.
Then another.
“I do,” I said. “I’m really glad the alpha cursed my car.”
“So am I.” Bo kissed me again, lightly. “Now go to sleep.”
“Yes sir.”
He chuckled.
And kissed me one last time.
This one was deeper. More intimate. More… soulful.
Moreeverything.
When he pulled away, his forehead rested against mine lightly.
It occurred to me, as I fell asleep, that I was never going to be alone again the way I had been when I was a kid.
I drifted off with a smile.
Mating wasn’t so bad when you weren’t unwillingly engaged to an asshole.

BO—AT SOME POINT IN THE FUTURE
“What are we doing?”Madison asked for the dozenth time since we’d walked out our back door. She was blindfolded, and though she was technically walking on her own feet, I held most of her weight off the ground.
