I crouch down to secure her ankles. She tries to wriggle out of my grip.

Psycho chimes in. “Mavis, we’ve got company.”

I hoist my captive over my shoulder and glance out the window.

“Is that a rocket launcher? Fuck. Back door,” I roar.

We tear through the house as the rocket slams into the front window. The blast shakes the walls.

Flock throws the back door open just as the explosion erupts behind us.

I cradle her in my arms, her terror sinking into my chest like a blade.

She’s mine now. No one’s taking her from me.

I launch off the back porch as the house goes up in flames.

Glass rains down around us as we hit the ground hard.

I will kill Toby. Even if it’s from the grave.

CHAPTER TWO

SOPHIE CRAVEN

Pain pulses through my arms, back, and stomach as I lie curled on the ground. My ears ring so loud it’s like sirens are trapped in my skull.

Who the hell blew up my house?

Correction—Toby’s house.

Big strong hands cup my face. My vision clears just enough to see wild green eyes staring into mine. His long curly blond hair falls around a chiseled jaw. And a nose and lips I’d love to see explore my core.

I blink. Reality rushes back.

This crazy asshole zip tied my hands and ankles.

“Are you okay?” I finally hear him say.

“No, I’m not,” I snap.

“You jumped out of a burning house with me in your arms. I’m in pain. Untie me,” I demand, fire still burning in my chest.

He doesn’t move right away. Instead, he shares a look with the others—his so-called brothers.

I say brotherswith venom. The word used to mean something to me, until my own flesh and blood decided his MC was more important than his sister.

Toby didn’t belong to their world. That’s why I let myself fall.

He wore slacks and suits, button-downs and polished shoes. He had that trustworthy, clean-cut look that makes you believe whatever words come out of his mouth.

Now, my head lolls against Mavis’s chest as he runs down an alley with me in his arms like I’m something precious instead of someone broken.

Toby used to be my knight in shining armor.

Now I don’t even know who the hell he is.

And if I’m honest, yesterday wasn’t the first time he hit me.
