“How was your girls’ night?” Creed asked after a while.
“What?” I whipped my head to face him.
“Your girls’ night? You have a good time?”
“Oh.” I laughed awkwardly. “Yeah, it was fine. Summer and Camilla got along great just like I thought they would.”
“That’s good. You need to get out more and enjoy yourself. I didn’t hear you come home though. What time you get in?”
My eyes widened and my cheeks flushed again. “I don’t remember.” I faced forward, stopping so Bella could pee.
I cleared my throat. “What did you do last night?”
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed him shrug. “Nothing major, hung out with a friend.”
“Oh fun.”
It grew quiet again as we turned the corner of the block.
“I found this rock-climbing place not too far I plan on visiting. I was wondering if you wanted to come along.”
My face scrunched. “Rock climbing?”
His hands went into his pockets. “Yeah, there’s a gym that offers it back home that I visit a couple times a month. It’s a great workout and helps build stamina.”
“Uhm, I don’t know Creed. I might play tennis sometimes, but I’m not as in shape as I used to be.”
“It’s not as hard as you think. Plus, they have beginner walls you can climb. Don’t make me go alone.”
I twisted my neck to face him again. He grinned innocently at me. My stomach fluttered as I released a small giggle.
“Fine, okay,” I agreed.
He lightly bumped his shoulder against mine. “It’s gon’ be a good time, don’t worry.”
While I was hyperaware of Creed’s presence, I enjoyed having him along on the walk at the same time. It was evident I had grown fond of his company and being around him. He was easy to get along with and made me smile more than I would like to admit. Part of that scared me because I didn’t know the last time, if ever, I had someone affect me like this.
Chapter 17
Creed
“Yeah I got some things I need to look over so I’ll be back that way in a couple weeks,” I told Ken on the phone as I pulled my truck into the driveway behind Nakyra’s yellow car.
“You know if your brother is still in bad condition you don’t have to rush back, boss,” he informed me.
“I know. I won’t be there longer than a few days. While I’m here to make sure my brother’s good, I still have a company to run.”
“Understandable. Just know business is running well and there haven’t been any issues.”
The front door opened and Nakyra stepped outside looking confused.
“Send me the reports for the week and I’ll take a look at them before the week is out.”
“Will do.”
I hung up and opened the car door. “You got a new rental?”
Smirking, I looked over my shoulder at the black Range Rover. “Nah, I turned the rental in. This bad boy’s all mine.” I ran my hand over the hood of the truck.
