“You better be careful, bro, she might have a bullet with your name on it.” Ezra laughed, but he wasn’t too far off. There were a couple of times I was tempted to pull my gun on his brother.

“Shut up,” Nazai gritted.

“Everyone’s dismissed. I’ma make some calls to a few people who owe me favors and see if I can find anything out too.” Dominic waved his hand in front of him.

I sat there trying to see if that was truly it. I turned to Nazai. “That’s all he has to say.”

Nazai’s eyes landed on me. “Dad doesn’t do anything without purpose. He’s calculated. Once Emmet gets information on the car, we’ll go from there.”

I turned toward the youngest Tavarez. Since I’d been in this family, I’d hardly heard him speak. I knew he ran a PI firm and from how his family spoke on him, he was a whiz at computers. I saw him shooting at the car too, but his face was impassive, almost like he was bored right now. Like he felt my eyes, he turned and stared at me. It sent a chill up my spine at how expressionless he was.

Snatching my eyes away, I looked around the room. Dominic and his wife, who had been sitting in the chair close to him listening and observing, spoke quietly amongst themselves.

A faint beeping could be heard. “I got a patient,” Lucas said, standing up to leave.

He turned to me and gave me a hard stare. Me and Lucas never had an issue since I’d been around, but I could tell he wasn’t convinced tonight didn’t have anything to do with me.

Regardless, that wasn’t my concern. Maddox and his dad might talk a big game, but truthfully they were soft and not threats. Everything they did was for show. If anything, I was sure the Tavarezes had racked up enemies over time and this fell solely on them.

The street was dark and quiet outside of the sounds of crickets chirping. Two street lights stood on either side of the house, one flickering. As I watched the couple stagger inside the house, I waited, rubbing my gloved hands back and forth, across the steering wheel. The man was supposed to be the only person here, he was my target, but it looked like the girl was about to become a casualty too. His brother, who lived with him, had left when I pulled in, meaning the house was empty before they got here.

After the shooting the other day, I couldn’t wait to take on another job, reaching out to my handler. Going to the gun range I learned Nazai had at his getaway house didn’t help either. It took me two days to scope out my target before making my move.

I sighed, hating when the plan didn’t come together correctly, but I didn’t have time to wait around.

I gave it ten minutes before climbing out of the car. Making sure I had my black tool bag in my bookbag, I crossed the street and headed toward the house. I stayed on guard, walking up the driveway to the backyard. I hadn’t had time to scope out the house like I normally did but I knew it had no security measures. I didn’t know the details with this one, just that this guy had pissed off the wrong people. I didn’t care either way, as long as I got paid at the end of it.

Adjusting the cap on my head, I kneeled at the backdoor and went into my bag, finding my break in kit. It took a couple minutes before I heard the small click. Putting everything away, I stood and crept in the house. It was dark inside. The closer I got to the steps, the louder the moans coming from the room grew. The girl was crying out loudly in an annoying manner.

Reaching behind me, I grabbed my gun, releasing the safety and going into my bag to grab my silencer then screwing it on. Slowly, I made my way upstairs. When I got to the door, it was partially open. I peeked inside and the girl’s back was to me. She was on top of the guy, riding him with her head tossed back as her body bounced.

For a second, I froze, watching them. The guy grunted loudly, digging his hands into her ample sides.

I sank my teeth into my bottom lip. My hand on the gun tightened. The hair on the back of my neck rose and I was swarmed with heat. Before, something like this wouldn’t have affected me. But now I couldn’t help but think of how Nazai had taken me. It was only once, but it had been permanently instilled in my body. It was like he unlocked something inside of me that refused to go back in the shadows. I rubbed my throat, thinking of the soreness it once had from my encounter with Nazai. I kept seeing his heated gaze on me.

I shook my head. No, this wasn’t the time for that. Right now this kill was my main focus.

Taking a deep breath, I closed my eyes and pushed the urges I was feeling away. Never had I been this distracted on a job before. The sound of skin clapping together caused me to open my eyes again. Now the guy was behind the girl, growling while she cried out as if he was killing her.

“I never knew voyeurism was your kink, Wildfire. I never would’ve guessed.” Gasping, I quickly spun around with my gun pointed. My eyes widened seeing Nazai standing behind me with a crooked grin on his face. His eyes slid inside of the room then back to me.

“What are you doing here?” I hissed.

He stepped closer to me, the gun pressing into his chest. “You think I was gonna continue to allow my wife to sneak out of the house and not know where she’s going?” My nostrils flared as I pushed out a heavy breath.

“You need to leave.”

His smile fell and his tongue went across his top teeth. “Turn around.”

My brows furrowed and my heart tripled in speed, bumping against my ribcage. “What?”

Instead of repeating himself, he grabbed my wrist and spun me around. His body pressed against mine and he lowered his mouth to my ear.

“Does it turn you on watching them?” he rasped.

A shiver shot up my spine as he wrapped his arm around my body, placing his hand on my stomach. Slowly he moved it down until he brushed the rim of my leggings.
