Major chuckled and nodded. “When you first came to me and suggested we go into business together, I didn’t think you would be able to fulfill what you wanted. Your family is known for the work they do, but drugs were never in the work. You proved me wrong.”
I smirked.
“This has nothing to do with what my family has going on. The District is my thing. Whatever business I handle with it is mine alone.”
Major nodded. “Understandable. When I first took over, I had to prove I could live up to the shoes left for me. My family isn’t in the spotlight like yours, but I can understand wanting to build your own name outside of your dad’s.”
The Montgomery family had their own success in Silver Stone, but behind the scenes they ran the largest drug empire in the area. While they ran successful businesses to cover up their illegal dealings, the drugs they flooded through the city were what put their name on the map in the underground world. No one ran drugs around here without going through them and they weren’t friendly to those who tried to undermine them. In Silver Stone, people were untouchable if you had wealth and connections. The Montgomery’s were one of the high power families that matched mine which was why I respected them as much as I did.
Major was a couple of years older than me but had been in charge for a few years now. He was a hothead from what I was told. He hardly showed his enemies mercy and he never let someone cross him twice. Even with all that, he was a good businessman. I met with him once a month and hadn’t had any issues.
Major grabbed the duffle bag off his desk and held it out. One of the men in the room came and grabbed it. “Take care of this.”
“You’re not gonna count it?” Normally when the money was brought in, he counted it while I was still there to make sure I wasn’t short changing him. I never took it personal, knowing with what he did, he could never be too trusting.
Major lifted one corner of his mouth. “Nah, you do good business, Nazai. It’s one reason I wasn’t worried about working with you. It’ll be counted, but I know it’s all there. Your next delivery will be doubled. I take it you’re sticking to just E and molly? Or are you finally adding the good stuff?” He raised a brow.
I shook my head. “Nah, I’m good on that. The pills are more than enough. When you start being greedy, that’s when you start making mistakes.” Although legal measures weren’t what I was worried about, I cared about the reputation my club had. If harder drugs were brought in, the chances of overdoses and things increased and that wasn’t something I wanted to deal with.
“I get it.” Major nodded. “If you ever change your mind though.”
“I’ll let you know.” I went to stand and held my hand out.
“As always it’s a pleasure doing business with you.”
“You as well.” We shook on it.
Since that was out of the way, I could head to my club and make sure things were prepared for the weekend. Thursdays through Sundays were always the busiest and I was confident today would be no different.
CHAPTER 2
CASHLYNN CAVANA
Adrenaline rushed through my veins as my hand tightened around my gun. My eyes narrowed as I peered through the dark closet I was in, watching the man laugh obnoxiously with someone on the phone. After watching him for three days, I had learned his routine. Knowing he would be home after six, I made sure to get to his house half an hour before him to scope the inside out. He stupidly didn’t have any security measures in place, too cocky for his own good.
Steven Reynolds was a known doctor in the underground world, making money from those who couldn’t get proper treatment in the hospitals for the fear of too many questions being asked. He was a man who would do anything for the right price, including gathering organs for the black market if asked. Turned out Dr. Reynolds not only was shady as shit but had hands that liked to touch underage girls. From the information I was sent about him, he’d been messing with a few teenage girls and had made some enemies that wanted to take him out. The why didn’t really bother me. As long as the money cleared at the end of the kill, I was good.
“Those idiots don’t know their heads from their asses. All they’re good for is making my pockets fatter. He doesn’t even know I’m skimming more money off him.” The annoying laugh that fell from his mouth again caused me to cringe. It was like a hyena cackling, hurting my ears.
Making sure the safety was off my gun, I tightened my grip around the handle again. Slowly, I pushed the closet door open more.
“A’right, I’ll see you at the convention next month,” he told whoever was on the other line. They spoke for a little longer before hanging up.
Dr. Reynolds set the phone down and leaned back, stretching his back. He picked up the glass of brown liquor and brought it to his mouth just as I pushed the door open fully and stepped into the office, causing the doctor to sputter, spilling some of his drink. His eyes bucked, falling on my gun.
“Who, who are you?” he stuttered, slowly lowering his glass.
A smirk formed on my face and I crept closer. “Seems like you’ve met some enemies, Dr. Reynolds.”
He blinked slowly and his mouth opened then snapped shut. His eyes darted wildly before landing back on me.
“If this is about money, I can give you money! It’s in a bag in the closet you just came out of. Take it all!” he rushed out.
I snorted. “I don’t give a damn about your money.”
Sweat beaded on his forehead and his breathing sped up. “Then what? Did-did James send you?”
I shrugged. “I didn’t get a name, turns out however, someone isn’t a fan of you enjoying teenage girls.” My nose scrunched in disgust. A surprised look formed on his face.
