“I don’t know if she’s opened the new trackers, but I’m sure she’s still with her parents.”

She hesitates for a brief moment before sending me an email that’s linked with the tracking feed.

I study the feed as two tracking dots move in different directions. One is moving slowly—circling someplace in Seattle. The other is in Buffalo.

“You don’t think she went back to him, do you?” I ask, hopeful that she did.

“No, I don’t…”

“See if you can break her down and get her to turn on him—hard,” I say. “Do whatever it takes.”

“Now?”

“No, whenever you feel like it.” I roll my eyes. “Yes, now.”

“I think I might need more time… emotionally, you know.”

“I don’t see why.” I pause. “You chose a side the moment you reported that she was dating him to us.”

“But—”

“You’re the reason I confronted her at the masquerade ball to see if she would crack.” I start my engine. “Just seal the deal and break her, once and for all.”

I’m sitting at a café that’s two miles away from Buffalo’s airport. My bags are safe and secure on Ryder’s jet, but I’m not leaving until this final job is done—until I can close this chapter and never reread the book again.

Hey… Why isn’t your stuff here anymore?

Where did you go?

My fingers hover for a second before I tap out the message to my parents.

Ryder and I have some unfinished business in Seattle, so I’m flying out tonight, but we’ll be back to see you soon.
