A scoff erupted from Hattie. “Surprised she even agreed to that.”

I shrugged. “She might still be holding out hope he’ll take her back.”

She studied me. “Wait, is that what you think?”

“I don’t know.” I hated to say yes, but Jesus, he’d wanted to marry her once upon a time, and she was going to have his child. How could I not think that somewhere deep down? “Between sonograms and doctor’s appointments, they’ll be spending a lot of time together over the next few months. And then, once the baby is born, he’ll be there and I’ll be here.”

Her head angled as her brows pulled together. “Are you not willing to move there?”

It wasn’t that I wasn’t willing, but it was more complicated than that, wasn’t it? Would he be ready for that? His life wouldalready be changing in a big way. “I wouldn’t be opposed to the idea.”

“Does he know that?”

I shrugged. “We haven’t really talked about what we’re doing. It’s only been two days. I don’t expect him to figure everything out right now.”

“Well, yeah, I get that. But he’s already had one girlfriend decide breaking up with him was better than having to move. So…I guess what I’m saying is just let him know that you’re open to the idea when the time comes.”

I nodded. “You’re probably right.”

“Are you seeing him tonight?” She reached for a nacho from the plate in the middle of the table.

“No. He’s on night shift for the next two nights.”

My phone vibrated on the table, and I picked it up, smiling as I clicked on the text notification from Seth.

Mountain Man: I miss you.

Me: Miss you too.

Mountain Man: Are you having fun?

Me: Yeah. Wish you were here though.

Mountain Man: So glad you said that. Turn around.

I spun around on my stool, catching sight of Seth standing by the bar. I couldn’t believe he was here. Was it just a coincidence, or did he come to see me?

He sent me a smile and leaned over, saying something to Adam before making his way toward me. My stomach flipped as his intense stare stayed locked on me, making me feel like the only woman in the entire place. He wore suspenders overhis heather gray T-shirt—his signature look when he wasn’t in full gear—and something about it caused heat to pool low in my belly.

I let my legs open further, making room for him to step between them. He ran his hands up my thighs and over my hips, settling on my waist. The shiver that raced through me from his simple touch took me by surprise.

“Hi.” The smile he aimed at me had so much more behind it than the simple word he spoke.

“Hey,” I breathed out, running my hands up his forearms that twitched under my touch. I glanced over his shoulder. “Did Adam drag you here for a food run?”

“No. I volunteered to go.”

“You did?” Did he just want to come see me? I chuckled. “I bet the guys all gave you a hard time about that.”

“They did at first. Until I told them you were here.” He smirked and then took a quick look over at Adam, who was now holding a plastic bag full of what I assumed were food containers. “Wish I could stay, but we'd better get back with the food before a call comes in.”

I nodded and he leaned forward, brushing his lips against mine. I gripped the back of his neck, not wanting the kiss to end, but reluctantly letting him pull back.

He pressed a quick kiss to the tip of my nose. “Text me when you get home tonight.”

“Okay.” I let my fingers trail back down his arms.

Once he and Adam were gone, I turned back to Hattie, who wore a knowing smile.
