I nodded. And then I blurted out something I really shouldn’t have.

“Can I sleep here tonight?”

CHAPTER THREE

My question hung in the air for what felt like forever. Finally, Logan answered. “I don’t think that’s a good idea,” he said carefully. “I’m a man and you’re a woman and… and it just wouldn’t be appropriate.”

“Oh.” I couldn’t argue with that, but I couldn’t hide my disappointment either. My stomach twisted at the thought of trudging all the way back upstairs to the guest rom.

“I’m sorry, Willow,” he said, voice low and soft. “I hope you understand.”

“It’s okay,” I said, but my voice cracked on the last word. I squeezed my eyes shut. I wasnotgoing to break down. Not again.

I felt Logan’s gaze on me, but didn’t dare meet his eyes. I didn’t want to see him looking at me with pity.

“Alright,” he said quietly, more to himself than to me. “Alright. Come here.”

I looked up, confused.

He gestured for me to come over. “You can sleep here. We’ll put a pillow between us and that way…nothing weird will happen.” He shifted over in the bed, making space for me.

Relief flooded me, making my limbs relax. “Thank you,” I said, walking over. “I know we just met today but…I really don’t want to be alone tonight.”

“I understand.” His voice was soothing. “Hopefully, this way you get some shut-eye.”

I slid myself in between the covers, careful not to disturb the pillow wall he’d put up in the middle of the bed. He turned the bedside table lamp off, plunging the room into darkness. The bed was pleasantly warm with his body heat, and I found myself calming down as I listened to his steady breaths. My eyelids lowered, feeling heavy, and I drifted into sleep.

I woke up hours later. I was still warm and cozy. And there was something hard and long, pressing into my backside.

I looked over my shoulder, and could just barely make out Logan. The pillow wall had been destroyed — I wasn’t sure which one of us pushed it down — but we were both right in the middle of the mattress, and Logan was kind of…spooning me. And his cock was pressing up against the curve of my ass.

I squeezed my legs together at the thought, then immediately caught myself. What the hell are you doing, Willow? He’s way too old for you. And he’s Tim’s dad. And you broke up with Tim less than twenty four hours ago. What is wrong with you?

Holding my breath, I eased myself away from Logan, trying my best not to wake him. A second later, however, his hand grabbed my hip, keeping me still, and he muttered something in his sleep.

I froze. Oh god, I had to be careful about this. Otherwise he’d wake up and see and that would be excruciatingly awkward for both of us.

I pressed my lips shut tight, so I wouldn’t accidentally make a sound, and tried to pry his fingers off my hip. He mumbled something again, and tightened his grip, fingers pressing into my skin. It was…possessive. Which I shouldn’t have found as hot as I did.

I was being stupid. He was asleep. He didn’t mean to touch me. He didn’tactuallywant me like that.

I gritted my teeth and pulled his hand off me, peeling off each finger one by one, not caring about how rough I was being. Afterthis, I’d slip out of bed and sneak back into the guest room. Yes, I was now wide awake and probably wouldn’t be able to fall asleep again, but that was a problem I’d just have to deal with.

Hand finally off me, I started to move away. Once again, Logan made a mumbling sound. He reached forward, and I heard a change in his breathing. My heart stopped.

“Willow?” His voice was gruff with sleep. “Willow, what are you —”

“It’s nothing,” I whispered. “Go back to sleep.”

But he was fully awake now, and a second later, he turned on the lamp. In the mellow light, I saw his face change as he realized. “Oh god,” he said, arranging the blankets to cover himself. “I wasn’t — I wasn’t pressed up against you, was I?”

“It’s… it’s okay.”

“Shit.” He looked so mortified, I actually felt bad for him. “Willow, I’m so fucking sorry. I didn’t mean to. It’s just something that happens. Men don’t have control over it.”

“I know,” I said. “I understand.”

He shoved a hand through his hair. “It’s been a while since a woman’s been in my bed. My body just must’ve not known what to do with itself.” He let out a self-deprecating laugh.
