His magic launched toward the water, turning the water in the air to freezing again.

I tried not to squirm, but it was so cold as it pelted my skin, I couldn’t help it. The noises that came from my mouth were certainly not human either.

Once out of the shower, I quickly brushed and dressed, ready to face the day.

And hope like hell it brought something other than tragedy.

I was readingin front of the fireplace in my favorite chair. Owen was there with me, both of us having breakfast in Krew’s wing. The stress of the day even had us eating our breakfasts in the sitting area, not at the table.

We couldn’t be bothered to be proper with everything on the line.

“Anything yet?” Owen asked for what had to be the hundredth time. He’d, of course, made me put up and take down the sound barrier at the door multiple times already.

“No.”

Owen groaned, twitching his foot at the ankle.

I was content to read, but Owen apparently wasn’t. “Would you like to play cards while we wait?”

He sighed. “I’d love to, thanks.”

I put my book down, placing the piece of parchment in it to save my spot.

Nara is okay.

I gasped. Finally. Finally, Krew was checking in.

I closed my eyes and felt for the bond. He was walking somewhere within a different wing in the castle.

Father was not happy. Yelled at her and from what we have been able to find out, may have thrown a book at her. But she is otherwise fine.

I took a deep breath and opened my eyes. Owen’s green eyes wide and on mine.

And the ring?I asked.

I don’t know for certain yet, but if my father was that mad this morning, it is likely she was successful.

I switched my attention to Owen. “Nara is fine, though the king likely scared the hell out of her. The ring we aren’t sure about.”

His sigh of relief matched the way I felt too.

Thank you for letting me know.

Thank you for not hating me for this.

“And our disloyal apprehended?” Owen asked.

Owen is asking about the faux disloyal.

I could feel Krew’s disgust as he responded,Currently dealing with it. Taking him into the mountain as we speak.

I relayed that information to Owen for him.

I hopped up to grab the cards. Silvia would be in later, but until I knew for sure about the ring, I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to go back to sleep.

Owen shuffled the cards. “Do you know how nice this whole speaking telepathically would have been for Krew and me these last two years?”
