I am aware.
May I join you?
I turned another batch of water droplets to steam. Can you at least check on Nara first?
Of course.
It was odd that even just knowing he was awake to wait with me made me feel better. Was I still a little mad at him and Keir for this whole foolish plan? Yes. But I also knew both princes didn’t wish any harm to come to Nara. They’d seen an opportunity and took it, while trying their best to ensure she had a way out if she wanted it.
I felt Krew before I heard his voice. “Raincheck on the shower I’m afraid, love.”
I didn’t have time to be disappointed as worry washed over me immediately.
“They are still sleeping, as of right now, but I am going to head downstairs and be ready for when our faux disloyal arrives. They sent word to the wall they are running a little bit ahead of schedule.”
I took a deep breath. “You will let me know once you know Nara got out safely? Ring or not?”
He peeked his head in the shower. “Of course.”
I stepped back into the water, closing my eyes to let the water fall over my head. “Either way, your father is sure to be extra irritable today. Please be careful.”
Krew didn’t say anything, so I opened my eyes. To find him gawking, his eyes taking care to roam over all of me.
“Krew.”
His eyes found mine at the same time his lips turned at the corners.
“Please be careful.”
He sighed and said more to himself than to me, “Maybe I do have five minutes?”
“Krew.”
He leaned against the shower wall, crossing his arms. “Fine. Spoilsport.” He looked in no hurry to leave. “But this,” he made a circular motion with his finger, “this is definitely happening later.”
I glared at him through the water. “Let’s just get through this morning first, Your Grace.”
With a flick of his finger, his magic shot toward the water. I was confused why he needed to turn it to steam, or if he was just using some magic to prepare for what was sure to be a taxing morning, when I felt the water hit my back. It was freezing. So cold I was shocked it hadn’t turned to tiny ice pellets.
I gasped, my entire body tensing. “That was rude.”
With another flick of his finger, more magic was flying toward the water.
I squealed, having learned my lesson, but couldn’t get away fast enough. Yet this time, the droplets of water that slid down my back were even hotter than I had it set.
I sighed with relief.
Krew’s smile stunned me from where he stood, still leaning up against the shower entrance. “I love you. I’ll be back as soon as I can this morning.”
I took a deep breath. “I love you too. Please be careful.”
“When am I not?” he said over his shoulder as he turned to leave.
Not wanting to exert the effort to yell, I sent to him,I don’t know, every time you jump off your balcony?
I heard his laugh and then his magic was there at my feet, waiting to attack the water again.
“Krew,” I warned.
