After Owen pickedup his jaw off the floor, he crossed his arms and glared at me. “Why?”
“I’d just like to see him. I know he was supposed to remain locked away until the end of the Assemblages, but Krew’s is officially over. And now that I can defend myself and also have a better handle on my magic, I’d just like some closure.”
“Fine. But tell Krew. Tell Krew first and then I will fetch him for you.”
“Okay. But I don’t want him there for it,” I stated.
“What? Why?” Owen’s brow was furrowed.
I let out a deep breath. “Because I know how I feel about Easton. And I know how Krew feels about Easton. And if I have to feel the weight of all that dislike, his and mine both, it is going to make it even harder.”
“Actually, that makes quite a bit of sense.” Owen made a brushing motion with his hand in my direction. “Go on now. Do your super odd thing where you are talking to nothing.”
Krew?
Yes, love?
I would like to speak to Easton today. Owen wanted me to let you know beforehand. So this is me letting you know beforehand.
There was a pause long enough I wondered if he walked away from someone. Why?
Because I need a bit of closure. That’s all.
If this is about what you did to that guard, it’s not the same,he responded strongly.
It is and it isn’t. It’s just something I want to do.
Okay. I’ll find you in twenty.
Alone,I added.
What?
I can’t feel the hatred and disappointment rolling off you matching my own. I feel it often enough when around your father to know that it makes my magic harder to contain.
I do not like the fact that you have a point.
I will let you know as soon as I am done.
I trust you. I trust Owen. Just please be careful, Jorah.
I turned back to Owen with as much of a smile as I could muster. “We’re good.”
“So can I trust you to stay put in Krew’s wing while I fetch him?” Owen asked.
“Let’s just go there,” I offered. “Wherever he is. I don’t want him in Krew’s wing ever again. It’s my safe space within the castle.”
Owen cocked his head. “Okay, fine.”
My step forward faltered. “He’s notinthe mountain, right?”
“No. He’s close to it in some run-down servant quarters.”
I gestured with my arm out. “Well let’s go get this over with then, shall we?”
Owen sighed. “I guess.”
