Krew?

Now that you’re awake, you may want to go check in on Molly. Renna is leaving tomorrow as well. You might want to spend some time with them tonight.

Sitting up, I immediately felt down the bond. Krew was with Keir. In his wing. And if I was checking in with Molly, that meant... that meant Molly was out.

What?

It’s ugly in here too if that’s any consolation.

I threw off the covers and immediately grabbed for a gown, stopping only to inform Owen we were heading to Molly’s room.

I ran part of the way, nervous that Molly would already be gone. What if she’d left and I never got to say goodbye? Granted it was just Savaryn. But from what she said, her family wasn’t invited to much.

What would I do at all these pretentious events without Molly to ask me about bosoms?

I skidded to a halt at Molly’s door, thankful to see her guard still standing outside it.

I knocked.

Renna opened. “Hey.”

“Hey.”

Molly was packing. Aggressively. “Welcome to the party,” she bit out without looking at me.

This wasn’t fair. She would have made an excellent queen. She would have been kind and compassionate. And added humor to an otherwise dark castle. “Molls.”

She stopped but wouldn’t look at me.

“What do you need? Do you need me to pretend like it didn’t happen? Do you need me to pretend that I think this is fair?” My voice cracked. “That I don’t think you would have made the best damn queen for Wylan?”

I saw the tear track down her face as her turquoise magic ran along her wrist. “No. You don’t have to pretend anything with me.”

“It’s not fair,” I whispered. “After everything you were put through in having to switch because I did. Renna has Jo. I have Krew. You were supposed to have Keir. And we were supposed to change this castle for the better.”

Molly looked at me through watery eyes. “You still can, Jorah. And we will still be with you. Just not right down the hallway.” She paused. “But if you need us, we will be here.”

I looked from one to the other. “I don’t know how to do this without you both.”

Molly cocked her head. “You don’t need us, silly. You’ve never needed us. But thank you for allowing us in. Thank you for working past your feelings about the Enchanted at the beginning and letting us squeeze in.”

I wiped at my eyes. “What am I going to do without you?” Renna was leaving. Isla had already left. Molly was leaving.

I was stuck with Gwen and Delaney.

Molly threw a sound barrier at the door. “You are going to get that evil man off the throne and take it. That’s what you are going to do. And you are going to ring for us every week or two for cards—I mean tea.”

I wiped at my eyes. “You’ll come back?”

Molly smiled tightly. “For you, I’ll come back. Only for you.”

I looked up at the ceiling, blinking hard. “I know I’m being selfish. Renna has wanted out of here for months.”

“A little,” Molly offered.

I laughed.

Renna came over and wrapped an arm around me and gestured for Molly. “These boys and their crowns will not break us. Not the three of us. Right, Molls?”
