While Renny was afraid of what the future held, he was happy that Drekkoril had come to the library a few dream days ago and included Rorie in the herculean task of trying to fix the Fae. They might not have the warmth of his relationship with Dra’Kaedan yet, but he believed it was a matter of time until they did. The D’Vaires were focused on helping them however they could, and Rorie had prioritized Renny. Their afternoons were spent working on solutions and at his request, they accompanied Drekkoril to the siofllar’am but once dinner was served, Rorie put politics out of his head and pursued Renny.
They went up to the terrace and were entertained by two delightful Faedrekan who appreciated their affection. The constant way Rorie touched him also gratified Renny, and his heart was overflowing with tenderness for the fairy. Beyond the physical things they shared, they also considered no topic off-limits, so they poured out everything inside one another. With so many close family members, Renny was used to the beauty of friendship, but everything about being around Rorie was more intense than anything else in his life.
Which unfortunately included the absolute terror that almost choked him when Rorie hopped on the back of Orlami. Unable to decide if it was easier to squeeze his eyes shut and hope Rorie survived without watching, he couldn’t convince his mind to allow it. Instead, he sat there on the terrace while Rorie laughed above him as he dangled upside down.
“What’s wrong with him?” Renny muttered to himself. “He’s going to get himself killed.”
“What?” Rorie shouted as Orlami zoomed around with no regard for Renny’s frantic pulse.
“Nothing.”
“What do you mean, nothing?” Rorie demanded, jumping off Orlami’s back without the beast even slowing from the breakneck speed he preferred.
“How aren’t you dead?”
Rorie’s brows snapped together, and he put his hands on his hips. “I do not know how to answer that question. There is air in my lungs and my heart is beating, so I suppose that is how I am not dead.”
“If I had any doubt about my feelings for you, all I’d have to do is watch you on Orlami to understand how awful it would be without you.”
“Why must you think upon my death when I am riding Orlami?”
Renny lifted his brow. “Hello, you completely lack fear.”
Rorie settled on the padded magical blanket Renny was reclining on. “That is untrue, and you know it. I am afraid of many things, but I have no reason to be terrified of Orlami. He would never allow me to be harmed. Orlami is a wonderful Faedrekan.”
“I’m not saying he isn’t.”
Once he was sitting next to Renny, Rorie kissed him. “I think somewhere inside you is Dra’Kaedan’s same temper.”
“Nope,” Renny responded with a laugh.
“Yet you squabble with him and turn each other into ninja kittens.”
“I don’t have his same level of fieriness, but we do have equal shares of crazy.”
“I would like to be held now.”
Adoring the bossy side of Rorie, Renny lay back as he created a pillow underneath his head. Rorie tossed aside his sword and sprawled over Renny, smoothing his hand across the velvety texture of his vest. “How’s this?”
“Not as comfortable as our bed, but I want to watch the dragons fly about before I have you inside me.”
“Is that the plan for later?”
“What a foolish question, Ren. Of course it is. How could I even sleep without experiencing my favorite thing each night?”
“I wasn’t in you last night, and we still had plenty of fun in our bath.”
“I was speaking broadly of sex with you, not necessarily intercourse,” Rorie remarked.
“Do you think it’s going to be better or worse when the dream ends?”
Rorie’s head popped up, and he studied Renny’s face. Lifting a finger, he traced the marks on the side of Renny’s face. “While I will miss seeing you constantly in your true form, I can only imagine it will be more intense. We will experience it fully with our bodies instead of forming it with our minds.”
“Hmm, good point. I guess it’s kind of like a mutual fantasy right now.”
“Will you make me wait long to have you inside me?”
