Rorie laughed. “I can only imagine the consternation of the sioskallos if I were to buck tradition and walk around in my fine pajamas. I do miss them dearly. There is much of your world to recommend it.”

“I’m surprised to hear you say that. You’ve hardly seen or learned about it.”

“I have such stress, Renny. My mind cannot rest or focus until I know how Drekkoril and I came to find ourselves on your realm. It makes no sense that I cannot remember or that it pains our heads to think on it. I want to learn of D’Vaire and the Council, but I am plagued by mysteries.”

“I hope you get the answers you need.”

“The Faedrekan will not let me down. I trust in them.”

“I’m not sure how knowing the answers will affect any of our issues. We’re still going to be from two different worlds when your questions are resolved.”

“It is much too hard to say what the future holds; that is true. Are you sad that you did not get a different v’airsell nioll?”

“I hardly know you, Rorie. It’s too difficult to say if I’m pleased with my mate.”

Brows furrowed, Rorie glared. “Well, you may not be able to answer such a query, but I would have you know that I am most happy to have you in my life. I wish to have a fulfilled one, and I believe together we can accomplish that goal. Volzi and Gonisa were never apart, and I look to them for an example of how I wish my future to be.”

Renny cocked his head to the side. “I’m surprised to hear you say Volzi and Gonisa. I thought you’d use your parents as the model for your relationship. You spent a lot more time with them, didn’t you?”

“Yes. I did not converse often with Volzi and Gonisa, but their love was continuously discussed. My parents cared for one another, just not in the way I wish to be with you.”

“What does that mean?”

“I seek for you to hold a high opinion of them, and I cannot know what your thoughts are on the boundaries they pushed in all directions.”

“I still don’t know what you’re talking about,” Renny responded, confusion on his handsome face.

Rorie wasn’t ready to get into the things he disliked about his parents’ relationship. There were rumors that it went further than what he knew. When such things were whispered, he’d wanted to ignore them, but they had sent him away to far-flung parts of the Fae realm at least once a week, which had always irritated him. There had never been a chance to confront his parents about what he’d heard—they’d died before Rorie had the guts to approach the subject. It left him saddened, but a part of him was unsurprised, since they’d dedicated themselves to pushing limits, and it made sense that there would be no exceptions. “Can it wait? There is so much to learn and discover; is it possible to save some things for later?”

“Of course.”

Pleased to be home and to have Renny with him, Rorie bussed his cheek. “Thank you. Shall we have a rest until morning?”

“There’s only one bed in here.”

“Are you opposed to sharing half? I cannot promise I will honor your personal space.”

“I don’t mind your company.”

Rorie wove a spell and his clothes disappeared. After giving Renny a chance to view his body, he replaced it with a traditionalkiot’rswhich hit him above the knee and since he was with his other half, chose a navy fabric that would please him. “Might I undress you?”

“Uh…I got it,” Renny answered, licking his lips. The action made Rorie’s mouth curl into a smile. There were many uncertainties, but there was attraction to be ignited.

“As you wish,” Rorie responded, racing to the bed.

Renny stripped to his shirt and pants without a word. It was disappointing but understandable, and Rorie could not contain his need to comment on it as Renny climbed in next to him.

“You would be more comfortable in akiot’rs,” Rorie told Renny. Going with impulse, he laid his head on Renny’s chest the moment he was settled.

A hand tentatively slid over Rorie’s long hair. “Maybe next time. Good night, Rorie.”

“Good night. May this entire dream be most pleasant for you, my v’airsell nioll,” Rorie whispered and let his lashes slide closed.

Chapter 10

Renny had to admit it was nice to wake up with Rorie in his arms. Since hours did not pass normally in their dream, he didn’t think they’d slept much. The Faedrekan had important things to show them and didn’t want to keep them lying around. They’d dressed once they woke up, and Renny loved donning a fresh outfit in Orlami’s scales and thought he looked cool with his sword out for the world to view. Every D’Vaire that practiced with a weapon, as Renny did in his daily classes with his High Kings, had it as part of their attire on the Fae realm.

An exquisite cloak, that highlighted the gold which represented his rank, swept to the floor, and it complemented his painted skin and crown. Being summoned in the modern age and with his preference to be at home in Arizona, Renny didn’t have much opportunity to get into anything other than jeans and T-shirts. While that would always be his preferred mode of dress, he was enjoying his kickass Fae clothing. With a flirty smile, Rorie grabbed Renny’s hand and led him to the siofllar’am, where Drekkoril was waiting for them along with the entire extended D’Vaire clan. Next to the Noble Protector was a long scroll with a list of names.
