“Let’s find Drekkoril and figure out what Orlami and Zurenzi have to show us,” Ducsarcelle Marcus Draconis decided. “None of us can wake up until they’re done with their mission?”

A tall Fae appeared in the doorway. “Roriethiel, t’rio ere shialaa tiaiotilla?” the man demanded.

“Sioskallo Jatzal, allow me to present Grand Warlock Familiar Renny D’Vaire. He is my v’airsell nioll. Orlami led me to his realm, where I met him and his family,” Rorie explained first in Fae’is, then in English. “Everyone, this is Jatzal. He is a counselor, orsioskallo, to Drekkoril. I’ve been working on a spell that will allow you to understand Fae’is and translate your words to my people. You must remember to use the ones that do not translate fully, like v’airsell nioll.”

“Who are Orlami and Drekkoril?” Sioskallo Jatzal asked.

“Drekkoril is your Noble Protector,” Rorie answered, his brows furrowed. “And Orlami is my Faedrekan.”

“I fear your odd journey to find your v’airsell nioll has addled your mind,” Jatzal said. “Our people are ruled by Noble Protectors Volzi and Gonisa. And no Fae is linked to a Faedrekan. That such a thing is even possible is a tale only your parents seek to speak of.”

A tear slipped down Rorie’s cheek. “Where are my parents?”

“That is why I wished to find you. They are missing. The Noble Protectors are not answering any summons from their private quarters. I need your help. I will also require better introductions than telling me this is ‘everyone.’ It is my duty to see to the safety of this castle.”

“It is the duty of every Fae to make sure this castle is safe. I will tell you of Renny’s family after we find my parents. Where were they headed last?”

“I fear they might have gone to the caves of the Faedrekan.”

“Come,” Rorie demanded of the large group of D’Vaires. “We must go to the caves.”

“We will help how we can, but there will be a long discussion about bespelling us. As Renny’s mate, or v’airsell nioll, we need to be able to trust you. We cannot do that if you force upon us this type of sleeping spell,” Ellery stated.

“I promise to listen to every word, but we must leave.”

Jatzal’s expression morphed from irritation to wonder and fear as the people filed past him, and Aleksander wondered if his eyes were going to bug out of his head as he took in the different types of magickind and shifters. One thing was for certain—if they’d stuck out in the Council, on the Fae realm, they were bigger freaks. However, there was no menace from Jatzal, and Aleksander’s anxiety wasn’t kicking into gear. Without the judgmental dragons that had once considered him cursed, perhaps Aleksander could venture throughout the strange surroundings without fearing censure. If nothing else, Aleksander was determined to be at Rafe’s side until they woke up.

Chapter 8

An irritated Renny was following his family out of the room Aleksander and Rafe had woken up in, but the heavy sounds of footsteps echoing in the hallway stopped them.

“Roriethiel, what did you do?” Drekkoril demanded, halting inches from the fairy.

“It is the dream spell,” Rorie answered, his eyes trained on the ground. The anger around the group of both immediate and extended D’Vaires was palpable, and Renny was glad it was affecting the fairy that had bespelled them without permission.

“How could you do this without asking?” Drekkoril snarled. “And explain how you made me invisible to others.Now.”

Rorie glanced up, and there were tears flowing down his face. “Drekkoril, Orlami and Zurenzi have taken us back to before my parents died. You have yet to be summoned, that is likely why no one can see you but the D’Vaires. When…when they die…and you become Noble Protector, everything will be normal again.”

“You should not have forced yourself to relive their passing,” Drekkoril commented in a soft tone.

“We must go. They are at the Faedrekan caves. If I can talk to them again, I need to take that opportunity,” Rorie managed.

“Has anyone used their magic here? Can you do one of those teleportation spells?” Drekkoril asked.

“If anything, I’m stronger here,” Dra’Kaedan answered. “Go and take a picture, I’ll get everyone there.”

“We do not have the technology of cell phones, but I can send a hologram,” Rorie said, then disappeared. Seconds later, a flickering image appeared in front of Dra’Kaedan that crystallized into a sharp image of a meadow with a high rocky mountain. Renny let his lashes fall closed as Dra’Kaedan took them to the right spot.

“Roriethiel,” a Fae yelled loudly. “You must return to the castle.”

“I cannot. I must find my parents.”

Renny’s throat tightened. Half a dozen men and women were standing in a semicircle as if protecting Rorie from seeing beyond them. Something was lying on the ground beyond them, and it was undoubtedly Rorie’s missing parents.

“Move aside so I can enter the cave,” Rorie demanded of the Fae standing there saying nothing.

A female Fae with vivid purple eyes made a gesture, and as she stepped forward, the others shuffled closer. “Roriethiel,” she said in a whisper once she was a foot from him. “Your father and mother were here trying to tame Faedrekan. Unlike many times in the past, they were able to locate the blessed creatures. The Faedrekan did not want to be tamed. It is an impossible feat. I am afraid they lost their lives trying to accomplish such a goal.”
