“I was worried for a minute there you had a whole serial killer past that I needed to know about.”

Rorie laughed, and the sound was musical, making Renny grin. “If that were the case, I would be a Dark Fae.”

“Wait, I thought you didn’t like dark magic? There are Dark Fae?”

“I will explain it, but I am not ready to do so now. We Fae are not proud to know the Dark Fae. It is much too heavy a subject for our first day together, but soon, I promise you will learn all of me and my world. I wish to know of you and yours as well.”

“That seems like a fair deal. I want the same things. Are you hungry? It’s nearly dinnertime; Noirin and Kendrick make the best food. Do you have any dietary restrictions?”

“Tiarnsgive me a rash, but I eat all other fruits and vegetables.”

“What about other stuff, like meat?”

“Meat?”

“Animals.”

“You eat animals?”

“Yeah, and other cooked things.”

“We cook our things, but we do not eat animals,” Rorie growled. “Imagine going through the trouble of finding my Faedrekan just to have him for dinner.”

“The good news is that our chefs prepare things that aren’t meat, so you don’t have to eat it if you don’t want to.”

“And for that, they will have my most profuse thanks. They are chefs, but your High Kings have no servants. Explain this to me.”

“We can talk about it while we eat, okay?”

“Agreed,” Rorie said, following Renny toward the door. “Might I hold your hand for the journey to your great room?”

Renny held out his arm, and his fingers curled around Rorie’s warm palm. They were nearly the same height, with Rorie no more than an inch shorter. Their gazes locked, and they smiled in sync at one another. “Ready?”

“Indeed. Renny, I fear I am going to grow quite fond of you in short measure.”

“I like you too, Rorie.”

“Are you really going to eat animals in front of me?” Rorie asked, and they strolled out into the hallway. There was a teasing light in his stunning eyes, so Renny nodded.

“Yep, and it’s going to be delicious. I’ll tell you about its yumminess in great detail.”

“You will force me to undo the spell that allows me to understand your English.”

“I have a feeling you’re too good of a sorcerer to waste what little magic you have right now on something like that.”

Rorie sighed, and the sound was mournful. “You are correct. I will be most glad when I have my power restored. I did not understand what I took for granted until it was drained.”

“I understand, I was drained once myself. An idiot kidnapped me, and I nearly died.”

“Tell me the idiot is dead, or I will be forced to resume my talk of killing.”

“Long dead, don’t worry, and we made sure she can’t be resurrected.”

“I am most curious about resurrections.”

“I think we have a lot to teach each other about sorcery.”

“Renny, I believe you and I will educate each other on many things,” Rorie remarked, and his tone again suggested he was referring to sex.
