Gemma

Ivan, Claude, Clara, Germaine, and Gemma’s three friends gathered in the field to fight for her. As promised, they all got to see Gemma’s white wolf form, although it was a somewhat bloody form – mostly because of all the damage she did to the wolves who had attacked her. She had a few minor wounds of her own, but they would heal quickly.

After the short-lived war, the wolf shifters had to elect a different leader on the spot. It was going to be hard for them to get themselves together. They had lost a lot of wolves who died in the battle. The worst part was that they finally figured out that they were fighting and dying for nothing.

Their moon goddess wasn’t going to make them all powerful for sacrificing a white wolf. However, everyone believed she would give Zagon a great deal of power.

The dragon shifters helped the wolf shifters gather their dead so each could receive the ritual burial they deserved. Then, the dragon shifters headed out.

Theo and Gemma were exhausted when they arrived home. The first thing they did was hop in the shower together. They washed each other’s bodies, tenderly, with love.

They slid into Theo’s bed, and Gemma pressed herself as close to Theo as she could while he wrapped his arms around her, holding her tightly.

Theo vowed, “I will never let you go again.”

“Bet,” Gemma said, smiling. Then, she promptly closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep, dreaming about horses, dogs, children – and Theo.

The next morning, Gemma woke to find the bed empty. She hoped he was in the kitchen making breakfast because her stomach was once again growling angrily at her.

He put a large omelet and orange juice in front of her, and she was halfway done as he still stood at the stove.

“Wow, you must be starving,” Theo said.

“I am. The food the wolf shifters serve their prisoners isn’t very tasty or satisfying,” she said. “Neither of us really liked it.”

Theo turned sharply to stare at her. “What do you mean, ‘neither of us’? Who else was with you there?”

“Your daughter,” Gemma answered with a shrug.

“My daughter? I don’t have a …” He stopped abruptly as a lightbulb suddenly turned on.

“My daughter? Our daughter?” he asked disbelievingly.

Gemma nodded.

“You’re pregnant? We’re going to have a baby?” he asked.

Gemma nodded, patiently waiting for the idea to completely sink in.

“Honey, I think your omelet is burning,” she said as flames from the stove shot into the air.

He grabbed the pan and threw it into the sink, and then threw baking soda on the flames.

“Wow,” he said, sliding into a chair next to her.

Then he said, “I owe you an apology. I’m so sorry I hurt you. I was so busy worrying about the past that I was unable to see you were my mate. You do know you’re my true mate, and there will be no other man out there in your future, right?”

Gemma stroked his face. “I’ve known you were my mate for a very long time. I’ve known there is no other man in this world for me. If I had to spend the rest of my life alone, with only the memory of our lovemaking, then I accepted that.”

“We’ve been together before, in a past life,” he said, staring into her silver eyes.

Gemma nodded. “I figured so. It was something I knew in my soul. And if I had been killed last night, then I would have sought you out in a future life,” she told him.

After breakfast, they made love. This time, it was powerful as Theo realized their souls were connected. It was as though they were surrounded by a warm cloud of passion that protected them through all of life’s challenges.

After a long nap, Theo said they should head into the dragon shifter headquarters. He wanted to tell Ivan about the child.

Ivan seemed to know they were coming. When Theo saw Marie in the main office, he said, “Now I know how you knew we were coming.”
