She nodded.
“Don’t forget that I’m right here with you,” Germaine said cheerfully. “I’ve got your back too.”
Theo had an urge to kick his friend, and it took all his willpower to not follow through with his impulse.
Gemma took a deep breath, which made her breasts swell in her dress. Theo didn’t miss the fact that Germaine’s eyes followed her action and nodded in approval.
Theo raised his hand and moved a small wisp of hair out of her eyes.
“You do look very lovely tonight,” he told her, unable to stop himself. “You always are beautiful, but tonight you are shining.” He gently kissed the tip of her nose.
He really didn’t want to get his feelings involved, but she wasn’t the only one who had to pretend they were mates. He could act like the doting lover and still maintain his emotional distance. For the sake of his vow and the sake of her life, he had no choice.
He also didn’t miss the light in Gemma’s eyes. He wasn’t stupid and knew what that meant. However, he would have to deal with that later. Right now, they had an audience to put on an act for.
“Are you ready?” he asked her.
She nodded and said, in a very quiet voice, “Yes.”
He grabbed her hand, and with Germaine on the other side, they headed for the entrance.
The huge doors swung open, heralding their entrance.
