The waist was cinched and had silvery lace all the way around, emphasizing her flat belly and small waist. Then, it flared at her hips. The satin flowed around her legs.
The only thing I need is a tiara, and I really would feel like a princess.
She practiced some of the dance moves in her high heels, not wanting to fall flat on her face and make a fool of herself, and worse, Theo.
He obviously did not enjoy being around her or in her company. She certainly didn’t want to make it even harder on him. She sat on the bed and wanted to put her face in her hands and cry, but she was certain Reagan would cheerfully murder her in front of everyone if she messed up the makeup.
She headed downstairs when she heard the door open. Gemma hoped it was Theo. She really wanted to see him again. Plus, she didn’t want to have to fight any wolf shifters in three-inch heels and a dress.
To her relief, it was Theo. He had arrived right on time to take her to the ceremony as promised.
Then, another dragon shifter walked in behind him.
“Gemma, this is Germaine, my best friend. He will be going to the ceremony with us tonight. He will also help protect you until your birthday has come and gone,” Theo said.
Which is when you can get rid of me.
Gemma shook her head to get rid of the childish thought as she searched Theo’s eyes for any sign of approval. There was nothing but the coldness she had experienced this morning.
Disappointed, she turned to Germaine, smiling the best that she could. “It’s very nice to meet you, Germaine.”
“Likewise,” Germaine said. He took a step back as though appraising her. “You are very beautiful. I can’t remember when I’ve seen a woman as striking.”
“Thank you. You are very sweet,” she said.
Theo announced, rather abruptly, “It’s time to get going. Lord help us if we are even a minute late.”
They headed out to the SUV that was waiting to take them to the ceremony. Germaine moved to open the front door for her, but she opted to sit in the back, opening the door for herself.
She sat silently during the entire ride, her heart aching so much. She had missed Theo, and he acted as though he hated her.
