The ones who could move on their own helped their clan mates who couldn’t. They managed to get everyone into the two cars, and there were at least two who were alive enough to drive.

Theo watched them leave. Once they were gone, Gemma turned back into her human form.

“I have never seen a wolf as beautiful as you. Your entire form seemed to glow with a silver aura like I’ve never seen,” Theo told her.

“Thanks,” Gemma said, smiling at him. “White wolves are incredibly rare. Which makes it totally sensible to kill them when they come along,” Gemma said sarcastically.

“They are, but I think there is something even more special about you. That silver glow that surrounds you is amazing,” he said.

Gemma hugged him and said, “Thank you for saving me. You are an incredible driver. Have you ever thought about NASCAR?”

“No, too many left turns,” he told her. “And they have a lot of stupid rules. Now, maybe I could look into drag racing.”

They joked to relieve the stress as they redressed the best they could in their tattered clothes and climbed back into Theo’s car. He half expected it to eject them for abusing it. The car started right up, and they headed home, watching anxiously from the windows to see who might be trailing them now.
