“Your life is in danger, and you’re making crazy jokes?” he asked.
“I’ve been in danger my entire life. I’ve always dealt with all the hard times with humor. Would you rather I be one of those hysterical girls who screams?” she retorted.
“No, thank you. The only time I want to hear you screaming is in my bed under my body,” he said.
“Oooh, just like a man. You have to throw those sex jokes in there,” she laughed.
“Oh, Savannah, it’s no joke,” he said.
The car was silent as they both realized he called her by his dead mate’s name.
“I’m sorry. It’s just that you remind me a lot of her,” he said as he made a sharp left turn and then an immediate right.
“Don’t apologize. It’s an honor that you think that I’m like her. She must have been amazing for you to love her so much,” Gemma said.
Then, she instinctively reached up for the “oh shit” handle as he rounded a tight curve, heading straight for a small suburban area with the two cars hot on their trail.
