Her mouth pops open when she sees it. “What’s this?” She picks up the box and holds it between her fingers.

I take it from her and open it to reveal the ring inside. “It’s something I remembered.”

I don’t know what makes her happier, the ring or that another memory returned. The smile on her face is nothing but pure joy. “Remembered?”

I nod. “My memory is coming back in larger chunks. I bought this after we got married. I don’t recall the entire day, but I do remember going to the jeweler to get this and of course, where I hid it.”

Her eyes start to water as I pluck the ring from the box. She extends her hand as I hold it out to her before sliding it onto her finger.

“I’m sorry I’ve put you through so much,” I tell her, my voice thick with unexpected emotion. My feet shuffle forward, closing the distance between us. I place both hands on the counter, one on either side of her, and lean forward to brush my nose along the column of her neck.

“I know what I said last night,” I say, inhaling her floral scent. It’s not a sweet smell; it’s dark and seductive. Has she always smelled like the most luscious garden? “That sex was off the table until I regained all of my memories, but since I can’t remember the last few weeks, I keep thinking about the last few years.”

One foot kicks her legs apart and I press myself closer. Her breath stutters.

“All of those memories are perfectly clear, as if they just happened. Do you remember when I fucked you in the guest bathroom at my parent’s house the day we graduated? You sat on the vanity with your legs wrapped around my waist while I plowed your pussy with my cock.”

“How could I forget? You came all over my graduation gown.”

I chuckle and slide my hands along the counter toward her waist. “Or, how about the time we fucked in a dark alley after the football draft? Your hands were pressed against the brick wall while I drilled you from behind.”

“Why are you doing this?”

“Doing what?”

“Taking me down this dark and dirty memory lane. What’s the purpose?”

I drag my hands across her waist and down toward the center of her body. “I wanted to remember loving you, Mia.”

“And you only remembered the times we had sex?”

I lean in closer, brush my tongue along her bottom lip, “It’s not the only thing. It’s just more fun to think about those moments.”

The timer on the oven beeps loudly. “Leave it,” I tell her when she glances up at me with expectant eyes.

“It’s going to burn and then the entire house will smell.”

“Don’t move,” I command before turning the oven off.

“Now they’re going to be overbaked.”

“Like I give a fuck, Mia. The only thing I care about right now is you and me.” I kneel in front of her and reach up to grasp the waistband of her leggings, tugging them over her curves and down her legs until they reach her ankles. She steps out of them and kicks the black fabric to the side. Her panties are next, traveling a similar path down to her feet until they’re discarded.

“Now what,” she asks with one cocked brow.

“Now it’s time to worship you.”

“Stop worrying,” Maverick tells me.

After another week home recovering from his concussion, he’s going back to practice. He’s been at practice for the last few days observing but today, he’s going to play.

“Are you sure you’re feeling okay?”

He smiles, a big, toothy smile that makes my heart flutter. “I’m fine. My neurologist cleared me and so did the team doctors. I’ll be okay.”
