The Freeman brothers, Alex and Lucas, sat in the waiting room with their fiancés. I didn’t recognize the third couple in the group, but they looked worried enough that they must have cared. Isabella was walking out of the room as I was approaching.
“How is she?” I asked, wanting nothing more than to see her.
Isabella grabbed my arm and pulled me out of hearing distance. “It’s okay.”
I felt sick.
“Then why is her ex here? Why are they all here? Be honest with me,” I pleaded.
“Lucas hit her.”
Rage flamed through my veins. “He what!?”
“It was an accident. They’re only here to make sure she’s okay. They were all going out together, and then this happened. They care about her too.”
The muscles in my shoulders relaxed, but not by much. “Can I see her?”
“Of course.” Isabella rubbed my back as she guided me to her room.
Vivian sat up in her hospital bed, an IV in her wrist. I had never seen her curls natural like that, and I fought the urge to run my hand through them.
“It’s fine,” was the first thing she said. “I just bumped my head. I don’t know why everyone is making such a fuss.”
I sat down beside her bed. “Because they care about you.”
Icare about you.
“I told Isabella not to call you.”
“I’m glad she did.”
“It’s nothing.”
I held her hand in my own. “It is to me.”
She squeezed her fingers over my palm before pulling away and looking up at a black-haired woman who was eying us curiously. “This is our friend, Crystal.”
I smiled up at her. “I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Crystal smirked. “Same here.”
From Isabella or Vivian?
Crystal stood up. “I’m going to grab some coffee. Do you want anything?”
I shook my head. “I’m fine, thank you.”
Crystal dragged Isabella out of the door with her, whispering in her ear. I knew they were talking about me and how I was reacting to Vivian, but I didn’t care.
“When do you get your MRI?” I asked.
“I’m not doing it.”
“Youaredoing it. They need to make sure you don’t have a concussion or any bleeding.”
“I can’t.”
