“Yes, that’s my home. Our family has lived there for four generations.”

An eyebrow shot up. “Your family owns the estate?”

I went silent, not ready to tell the story of how my great-grandmother had ended up living in that house to begin with.

“Not exactly.”

“So, you rent it?”

“No.”

“How does one get to live in a historic ten-room Victorian home on 11.82 acres of land on a server’s salary?”

Well, that was specific. Maybe a realtor had told him about our place? Jack did say he was looking.

“We’re the caretakers.”

“Caretakers?” He huffed. “Is that what you call it these days?”

Oh, this townreallyliked to talk.

Adrenaline pumped through my veins and my hand shot for the door handle. “Pull over.”

“What?”

“Pull the damned car over, now.” I didn’t wait for him to come to a complete stop before hopping out of the car. I slammed the door and proceeded to power walk the rest of the way home. It was better than spending one more minute with that jerk. Anyway, the driveway was only a few hundred feet ahead.

“Taylor, wait.” Mr. Jerkface jogged up to me, but I continued to ignore him. “I shouldn’t have said that.”

I stopped and turned to face him. “You don’t know me, and I sure as hell don’t want to know you. Being rich and driving around in your fancy black Mercedes with your own personal lawyer doesn’t give you the right to treat people like crap.”

The rain poured over his face, making his dark brown hair cling to his pale forehead. “You’re right. I’m sorry.” He tucked his arms close to his chest, slightly shivering under the cool rain.

The fire in my belly settled down to slightly burning embers. “Apology accepted.”

“I hate to ask, but would you mind if I dried off at your place for a bit?”

“Seriously?”

“Or you could just throw me a towel from your door?”

The moment my mouth opened, I knew I was going to regret whatever came out next.

“I’ll make you a deal: You get Blush towed back here, and I’ll even let you stay for dinner.”

“Seems like a fair trade.”

I let out an evil chuckle. “You haven’t tasted my cooking yet.”

We got back into the car, but this time I sat in the front seat. As he ran a hand through his wet hair, the muscles in his forearm flexed. The man was sexy for sure, but he would be a lot hotter if he didn’t open that mouth of his.

“What’s your name by the way?”

He swallowed. “My name?”

“Uh, yeah, I can’t introduce you to my aunt and grandmother asMr. Intensity.”

That kind-of smile he had before brushed over his lips. He did have beautiful lips when he didn’t scowl.
