“What the fuck! You’ve been sitting here running your mouth for five minutes, and you know where Mindy is? I’m going to fuck you up when you get out of here. Now, where is my woman?”
“Hey, man. I was answering your questions. They took her to Detective Wiley, and yes, I know where that sneaky bitch is. Vinny put a tracker on her as soon as she started asking too many questions.”
“Why didn’t Niro tell me this shit?”
Jules grimaces before rubbing his head, “Vinny is trying to move up, ya know. He knows that you have to prove yourself, especially if you’re not blood. He didn’t tell Niro because he wanted to show he was valuable and not just another soldier.”
“I’ll deal with Vinny andyoulater. Right now, we need to get to Mindy before I have to kill everyone in this fucking city...”
Ro, Niro, and Paolo come into the room before I finish my rant. Although I don’t want to waste more time, I tell them what Jules said. By the look on my brother’s face, I can tell he’s pissed, but he’s holding it together for my sake. We don’t deal well with insubordination, but Jules and Vinny are the reason we know where to find Mindy so we won’t punish them to much.
“Jules, you knew better shit than this. The head always knows what the tail is doing. That’s how our organization works. You better be glad your young ass is my cousin, or I’d fuck you up. I still might. Luca, let’s go. Vinny finally checked in,” Ro says.
“Luca, call our contacts at the police department and have them file a missing person’s report for Mindy. I’ll have my team call the local news stations and make social media posts. It will make it easier to spot them if they try to move before we can get to Vinny,” Niro commands, going into protector mode.
I nod because he’s right. Although it will be easier to find her with the entire city looking, it will also be harder for me to kill Alicianna and Talia when I find them. However, that doesn’t matter right now. They will meet the silent killer sooner or later, no matter what. Right now, it’s about finding my woman.
It doesn’t take long for me to file the report, so when we get in the SUV, it has only been fourteen hours since Mindy was taken. It’s still long enough for her to be hurt, and that doesn’t sit right with me.
“I made sure Alicianna was gone. I don’t know how the fuck I let this happen.” Paolo shakes his head, worry like I’ve never seen on him covering his face.
“Snakes slip through sometimes, we will get our revenge. Don’t worry.” Niro claps Paolo on the shoulder, but I can tell that Paolo isn’t convinced.
Before I can reassure my cousin, Niro’s phone rings. He talks for a brief second, then hangs up. I’m anxious to hear what he has to say.
“My team just checked in. The address that Vinny gave belongs to Detective Wiley. I knew that bitch was dirty. We need to play our cards right, Luc. Stay in control,” Niro warns.
My family knows me well. I’m holding on by a thread. My instinct to kill is especially high right now. Protecting my loved ones is my first priority, and Mindy is the person I love the most in this world.
It takes another twenty minutes for us to arrive in a quiet, up-and-coming neighborhood where Vinny is waiting. The houses in the area are somewhat older, and it’s easy to see that some developer is slowly buying up the neighborhood. Gentrification is definitely in effect, but not completely, which could work to our advantage. People in these types of neighborhoods like to mind their business.
We park down the street from the house that we suspect Mindy is in, and Vinny’s car is already here. There aren’t many cars around, and even though it’s dark now, I still don’t like being in unfamiliar territory where strangers could see what’s going on. Even though I hope in this neighborhood people will mind their business, you never know. We do our best not to involve innocent bystanders, but if someone gets in my way, I won’t hesitate to protect my family from any and every one.
Before we can get out, Vinny is at the driver’s side door. My rage is bubbling up, but I keep my cool with him for now. I have other people to let my anger out on. Speaking of which, I really hope Niro has a cover story and a plan for the detective because her ass will not make it out of this alive.
“Boss, I’m sorry I—”
“Shut the fuck up, Vinny. I don’t know if you noticed, but Luca doesn’t like excuses or explanations. He barely likes talking to you motherfuckers. Now, give us a quick rundown,” Niro cuts in before Vinny can piss me off any further.
“Uh, yes, sir. Detective Wiley, Talia Gates, and Mindy are in the house. There’s nobody else as far as I could tell. I saw the two women carrying Mindy in through the back into the basement. I didn’t want to chance going in without help.”
“That’s the first smart thing you’ve done.”
“Are you sure nobody else is in there?”
“Not that I’ve seen or heard.” Vinny shakes his head.
“What about Alicianna?”
“Alicianna?” Vinny frowns. “No, why would she—”
“Jules said Alicianna is the one who shot him,” Ro interrupts.
“Jules was shot! What the fuck! I knew that bitch was trouble.”
Ro looks to me to see if I got a read on Vinny’s behavior. If he’s hiding something, I would be able to pick up on it. But fortunately for Vinny, he’s not lying about Alicianna, so I shake my head at Ro.
“Yeah, she’s definitely a problem. But right now, we need to focus on getting Mindy out of that house, and we’re not going in guns blazing.” Ro looks at Vinny before saying, “First, I need you to lure the detective out. Then call 911 on your burner, and report a fire.”
