“I love you.”

I hadn’t said it sober ever and never initiated it but here I was being brave or dumb or leaping or whatever this shit was.

He licked his lips and grinned so wide I saw teeth I didn’t know that man had. “I know that, Pretty P. And I hope you know I love you, too. Would die for you, kill for you and do whatever I needed to ensure no harm ever came your way. I’m patient because I know what we are and what we have. Now get out your damn head so we can wash that mane of yours. We gone take these braids down, get this hair washed but that’s about all I got patience for.”

“I can make this style—”

“You misunderstand me, baby. You tell a nigga like me you love him and think I’m not about to write my name in your pussy all night? You might get Corey on a regular basis but that hood nigga City ready to tap in to make you tap out. Got me in myfeelings and shit, let’s go, P. I’m ready for them walls and my tongue to get reacquainted.”

“‘Bout fucking time.”

I woke up out of my dead sleep to hear what I knew was Lyric’s voice in City’s bedroom. I was almost too worried to lift my head but then her words registered.

I glanced up and noticed he looked completely calm even though I was sure he was irritated with having been woken up the way he was.

“Lyrie, what you doing in my house? It can’t be no later than seven.”

And he would know, since he had my ass up until almost five. He wasn’t lying when he said he wanted to taste my walls. He wrote his name on every centimeter of my lips before he and his dick went spelunking within my gushing center. Every potential depth of my cavern was fully investigated for hours, as he had me weeping from my eyes and lips. Both sets.

The man made me drool for the dick and then all over it. Praise God because blessings were not the only thing flowing.

But now I was sitting here with my hair all over my damn head with Lyric having caught us.

“That’s what you got to say when one of my best friends is butt ass naked in your bed right now?” I heard her stomp herdamn foot like a brat and I wanted to laugh but I didn’t know if she was about to jump in this bed and cut up.

I lifted my head to peek from beneath the covers I was using to shield myself from her wrath. She didn’t look pissed, just irritated with City or maybe me. Probably both.

“Lyric—”

She waved me off and folded her arms over the croppedDesperadosshirt, baring Grant’s number. I loved how she integrated him into her style almost as much as he did her. You wouldn’t catch Grant somewhere out without something that promoted his wife. From her face on his shirts to the shoes that they co-designed together, they had no problems with making sure the other knew they were on their mind.

“Girl, chill out. It’s about damn time because I was sick and tired of pretending I didn’t know about y’all.” My eyes went to Corey’s profile that still hadn’t lifted from his pillow before her words drew me back in. “Nah it ain’t him. He ain’t said shit wit’ his lame ass. You supposed to be my family and you keeping secrets.”

Okay, that anger was definitely directed at Corey but I didn’t get too comfortable because I knew my turn was coming. And I couldn’t have her fussing at him like that.

“This can’t be the same girl I had to beat a nigga’s ass on the inside behind because she wanted to hop on live dry fucking her damn boyfriend I ain’t know that much about.”

His deep raspy voice held that same big brother/ fatherly tone he often took with her and I had to press my lips to keep from laughing at the two of them. He hadn’t bothered to roll over and even look at her yet, just kept talking his shit like he wasn’t at all concerned.

Lyric held up her hand that sported her custom sun-colored diamond engagement ring and wedding band before she flipped Corey off. “That nigga put a ring on it in less than a year so saveall that huffing. Speaking of, don’t you have some hardware you need to be purchasing yourself, C?”

“Talk to your homegirl ‘bout that shit, Lyrie.”

I was again staring at his side profile, which didn’t intimidate him at all because he was looking at me right back. His eyes held that soft intensity he always wore when we were together. For us to have just fucked all night after saying I love you, talking about marriage was quick. Not like I wasn’t there, but…it had only been a few hours.

“Well, hopefully one day she’ll be my stepmama or whatever the hell. Anyway, I can’t believe you kept this shit from me, though. Real talk, I gotta go talk to Travis about this. I feel like this some kind of violation of the set or sumn’.”

Lyric was leaned against the door frame a testament to how comfortable she was with the both of us. She didn’t think to give us a chance to get dressed or nothing as she kept up her interrogations.

Corey sat up quick as shit but kept his blanket around his waist. Lyric was laughing and I knew she’d only said that to get his ass up.

“Aye, I’m comfortable as fuck in my bed, ass naked with my dream girl and you only talking shit cause you think I won’t let my dick swing and embarrass your ass. Stop playing with me, Lyrie.”

She stuck out her tongue and I knew that was the one thing that would get her moving.

“Boy, I wish the fuck you would. Now find your draws and shit so we can get ready to eat. I’m ready to go. We supposed to be getting dressed together and shit but you in here taking dick, just nasty. Even I got mine and made sure I was still on time. Hurry up, you whores.”

She pointed at the two of us and I wondered just how badly we overslept for her to have come all the way in the room. Wemust’ve been dead to the world to not even hear her. Lyric didn’t say anything else just turned and walked back down toward the kitchen.
