“Do I run it or does it run me? Besides, I just gave you some pussy, baby, you don’t have to gas me. And no, the packages are fine, I’m just tired.” I eased my hip down onto his desk because my thighs were burning and my walls were sore.

He tossed the wipe into his trashcan before he came and eased his long body in between my legs. Our eyes met as he rubbed my thighs, trying to release some of the pain he knew they were in.

“It’s my job to correct you when you talking some bullshit and that’s exactly what was just coming out of your mouth. So, we got that out of the way, tell me what’s on your mind.” He started to kiss the side of my face in the overly affectionate way of his that I knew was only reserved for me.

Him thinking I was going to focus enough to answer him was crazy.

He stopped abruptly but kept his fingers kneading my thighs as he waited on me to respond.

“I don’t know. I just wonder where I’d be if things had happened differently.”

“Things like what?”

I sighed as I looked at him warily. “Certain things in my life—”

When his head cocked to the side I wondered what I’d said that had his demeanor changing. “Tell me this ain’t about a nigga.”

“After your dick just slipped out of me? Boy, I will fight you for even playing with me like that. I’m a lot of things but I ain’t trifling.” I pushed at his hands but his massive grip stayed imbedded in my flesh.

A smirk crossed Corey’s face at my inability to shake him before it shifted into a smile. “Had to check in and make sure my dick didn’t have you rethinking life negatively.”

I reached up and stroked his chin, watching how he relaxed into my palm. “Never that, Corey. You should have more confidence in your stroke than that.”

“Shiiit, I got confidence in me. It’s your ass I gotta worry about. You enough to shake a nigga’s self-esteem. Uproot it from the bedrock.”

I threw my head back and laughed as he removed even more distance between the two of us. “Don’t do that. I ain’t that bad.”

“Your pretty ass can and has ripped a nigga’s ego to shreds many a night. But for real, tell me what you’re thinking since my dick ain’t the guilty party. You all upset and shit. Lulling you out of the good headspace we put you in. I’m used to you falling into your post sexdicomaand now I’m worried.” His brows dipped as he glanced down at his watch like I was off my regular post fuck schedule.

“Dicoma? Like a dick coma? You are a fool.”

Corey nodded at me before nuzzling his nose against mine. “I might be but it got your pretty ass to smile.”

I inhaled the scent that was embedded into my skin smelling a mix of us and his cologne. It was subtle but had deep notes just like the man who wore it. I rubbed my cheek against his neck to imbed it in my skin.

“I think I’m tired.”

“You speaking too generally. That tired could be from running around, it could because I got through letting you use my dick as a mechanical bull, or cause you got a lot on you. Narrow that shit down, P.”

“All the ripping and running having celebrity hair clients. It’s getting old. The money has been more than good but right now I’m just sitting here wanting to do something that’s less stressful on me. I’m tired of hotel rooms and late ass nights and then early call times especially when my ass ain’t even the talent. People’s attitudes not the best either. Folks have ignored my good advicebecause I’m just thehelpand when they get caught up they wanna come back for kind words and I ain’t got it for them.”

Talking to my mama about Trinity had gotten me thinking about everything that I’d watched happen over the last few years. There were some artists that I couldn’t even listen to because I knew their attitudes were trash or how they got down off stage disgusted me.

“Who said something like that to you?” Those brows were dipped again and I wouldn’t name names but I wasn’t going to lie to him either. Instead, I straightened the t-shirt that covered his chest to ensure I was good.

“Don’t even get me started. Just know if there’s ever an artist I don’t listen to, it’s for damn sure because I’m holding a grudge.”

“Damn it’s like that?” He looked surprised probably because I hadn’t mentioned any of this before.

“You couldn’t imagine the people who have an issue with me because they know I’m Lyric’s friend but will still want to hire me for hair or wigs or something. Got a whole one sided feud going on because Lyric nor I give a fuck about them or their anger. Swear she overrated but then want me to make them a carbon copy of her wigs or get the type of hair she has. That’s why I can be so excited about y’all forming a label. Y’all ain’t gone have worthless people in here trying to pretend to be something they’re not. Which among other reasons is why I will always support what y’all do.”

“I hope you know them hos ain’t just booking because of Lyric.”

I smiled at the way he wanted to reassure me that I was still that bitch at my craft. “I know I have Lyric looking good. She’s the best ambassador for me without me even having to ask.”

“Talk your shit, Porsha.” He pulled at the neck of my dress symbolically popping my collar.

“I will and so will she on my behalf. The thing that kills me is that so much originality is being lost because people just try to do what’s hot. It drives me crazy. Nobody wants to just be them. They just want to copy and paste and think they’ll have the same type of success. Lyric is that girl because she’s herself. Ain’t no faking the funk about her. She’s just who the fuck she is unabashedly. Where’s the 90s shit at? And even that was kinda cookie cutter but everybody had a spot they carved out. Girl groups and boy bands but it was all different.Boys II Menwas different fromJodeci. Both could sing, both were boy bands but one you could listen to with ya mama in the car.”
