“I’m—I’m sleeping with Garrett.”
Maisy stared at me. Her eyebrows pulled in and she tilted her head to the side to study me. She stood from the bed, walking over to me. The way she wasn’t saying anything made my heart pound. I needed her to give me some sort of clue what was going through her head.
She grabbed the bottle from my hand again, taking a long drink, and then shoving it into my chest. All the air rushed from my lungs and I swear I was sweating. Was she pissed?
When she turned to the door and headed that direction, I rushed to set the bottle on the nightstand to stop her.
“Maisy, stop, please.”
“Why, Tyler?”
“Because, God, out of everyone, I didn’t think you’d judge me. That maybe you’d like to know that I’m not broken.” I took another deep breath because this word vomit was getting wild. “You asked me back then if my problem was because of him. I didn’t think it was back then.”
Her hand dropped from the doorknob and she faced me once more, crossing her arms over her chest. Her tank top was low and the way her arms pushed her boobs up was more than appealing, but it didn’t get me excited like it probably should. Wow…
“So, what was it back then?”
“It might have been him!”
Maisy dropped her arms and rolled her eyes, reaching for the door again.
“Mais, please.”
She sighed, coming back to me and glaring. Maisy was so short compared to me, barely reaching my shoulders. It was so different from having to look up at Garrett.
“Why? Why should I stay for this? Why am I sticking around for you to dig up hurtful old memories?”
Ouch. I hadn’t realized things had gotten that bad between us. Maisy had never let on she was so upset after that night when she suggested the break. We’d never gotten back together, however. Our break had become permanent.
“I thought, out of everyone… shit, Maisy, I thought you’d be understanding. You’d said it at the party the other night. You knew I’d tell you something juicy like that. This is me telling you. I need someone to talk to.”
Her expression softened. She reached out and grabbed my hand, her small fingers lacing with mine. “How long has this been going on?” she asked hesitantly, like she wasn’t sure she really wanted to know the answer.
“Since a few nights before the party.”
“So when Toby said he had proof…”
“He didn’t. He really didn’t! I didn’t even know Garrett was bi until I’d caught them together.”
Maisy’s eyes widened, letting go of my hand. She quickly moved to grab the bottle and took another swig. “What do you mean you didn’t know that Garrett was bi?”
Dear, God. Had everyone known except for me? “I mean, I had no clue. I’ve only seen him with girls. Sure, I knew some of his friends, like Toby, were gay, but that doesn’t mean anything.”
Maisy raised an eyebrow at me. She lifted the bottle and took another large swallow before handing it back to me. She sat on the edge of my bed, patting it, so I sat next to her. I took my own swallow of the tequila, and man, I was feeling the buzz. Everything was taking on a hazy fuzz, and I felt all light.
“Tyler, you’re right. It’s perfectly okay to have platonic relationships with queer people, but it never struck you as odd there were so many of them?”
I groaned and dropped back onto the bed. Maisy quickly grabbed the bottle from my hand before I dumped it all over myself. I felt like the biggest idiot in the world. “Maybe I’m just blissfully ignorant.”
“So what happened? How did all of this start and why does Toby think he has proof of something going on between you two?” Her questions came rapid fire, and my head swam. The booze seemed like a good idea to help soften the blow of the situation. I now regretted it a little.
“Gah, so I walked in on Toby giving him a blowjob.” My face heated as I recalled the memory. “I was in shock and I couldn’t…look away. It turned me on and I’d never thought I’d be turned on by something like that. Toby asked if I wanted to join in…”
Maisy giggled, smacking my shoulder playfully. “Well, did you?”
“Fuck no. I’d never thought about being with a guy before. Garrett told him not to touch me and I bolted. He has proof of nothing.”
When she leaned over me, her face appeared confused. “So, once again, how did all of this happen? You’d never thought about being with a guy, but you just told me you are sleeping with Garrett?”
