“Fuck, I owe Fury a hundred bucks, I could have sworn that would not be the reason she’d lose it,” Viper mutters and Blade snorts but covers it with a cough not wanting to be on her bad side as well.
She curls her lip at me and growls, “You promised me, no, actually, you triple promised on my fourteenth birthday, no less. We linked our pinkies and kissed them!”
I clear my throat to stop my smirk, which wants to come out because I’m still mad at her—no fucking furious, but the fact that is why she’s mad is hilarious.
I tilt my head and snap, “Well, let’s call it even then, shall we?” She furrows her brows and I raise one back and remind her, “For when you decided I was the type of man to finally have you and you believe I’d fuck Misty a few days later,” her eyes widen and I point at her, “I fucking told you that I loved you, I fucking told you that I had loved you for a lot longer than I should have and how do you take that, you believe I fucked someone else!”
She flinches, then states, “You said it was a mistake...”
This fucking girl.
I step forward and shout, “Because you said you wanted out of Rose Meadows, that you had dreams!”
“Oh shit,” Venom mutters as Ivy’s cheeks redden and she shouts back, “New York was never the dream, you were!”
I scoff and shout back,“And yet you let me believe otherwise,” I shake my head and growl, “You accused me of not fighting for you yet refused to remember I am the type of guy who would put your wants first, like I have for fucking years because I knew once you left, you would come back within a few days realizing you made a mistake,” I run a hand through my hair, “I needed you to understand that Ivy, so you didn’t resent me.”
“Jax,” she chokes, but I shake my head again in frustration, putting my hands on my hips, hating how my legal name sounds on her lips.
I forgot how good it sounds.
The last time she called me it was when I was eighteen, before I walked out of the club with a girl from high school.
I should have realized then that Ivy saw me as hers.
“You took one look at Misty and decided I must have fucked her instead of confronting me and if you had you would have realized I jacked off in the shower to the memory of you only to come out of my bathroom fully dressed to her getting herself off on my bed,” I tell her and she swallows hard, her throat bobbing, “I nearly broke her fucking arm by how hard I dragged her out of my room and since you Ivy, I haven’t so much as looked at another girl and yet here you are after I knocked you out to stop you from marrying another guy.”
“I didn’t want to get hurt,” she admits, and I lock my jaw before I grit, “Yeah, and instead you hurt me, which all could have been a moot point if you’d opened your mouth and spoken to me like an adult.”
She flinches, and I look away, hating how upset she looks, the urge to hold her high, but I try to squash it.
We have bigger things to talk through before we even attempt to discuss ourselves, and there is an us. I just don’t know how I can trust her yet.
“Hold on, hold on,” Venom says, and I look at him as he looks between me and his sister with a raised brow and confirms, “She threw a vase at your head because you smoked?” he looks between us again, “Not because you knocked her out with chloroform then basically locked her in your home?”
I raise a brow at him because yep, that is exactly what she’s upset about which just proves she never wanted to go through with the wedding to begin with. Blade’s laugh escapes while Venom bites his fist knowing this is still a serious matter but his sister is fucking crazy. She’s my crazy but still crazy none the less and I look at Ivy to see her cheeks red.
I don’t laugh or even smirk. As soon as Ivy looks up and we lock eyes, I demand, “Why don’t you explain exactly what your mother said for you to get into bed with Hayden?”
She freezes before she snaps, “I did not get into bed with Hayden!”
I tilt my head and confirm, “But you would have, right? If the wedding went through, you would have slept with him, whored yourself out for your mother.”
Her nostrils flare, and she growls, “Watch it, Jax!”
I shake my head and hold my arms out to my sides and shout, “Why, because that is basically what would have happened if I hadn’t intervened, either that or your neck would have been sliced as soon as you refused!”
She flinches then whispers, “It wouldn’t have gotten to that because I knew deep in my gut you would have gotten involved.”
“You never should have chanced it to begin with,” I say lowly, “You should have trusted me and remembered exactly who I am to you, who I have always been, and told me.”
She shakes her head and says, “It wasn’t up to me to tell Mama’s secrets. She was fragile.”
I swallow my scoff as Venom growls, “And what did dear old Mama tell you was wrong with her little sister?”
Ivy looks away, struggling to tell us, and I murmur, “Cupcake.” She looks at me, and I demand softly, “Talk to me, show me that you do trust me…”
Her eyes race between mine, and she admits, “Cancer, she said she had cancer and was in remission, while Talen held a gun to her head, and she had a cut lip.”
