I laugh. “It’s not like that and you know it.”

“Well, you know what they say about eavesdropping.”

“What?”

“That they shouldn’t.” She laughs.

I roll my eyes and ask her, “Do you reckon she’d crack if questioned about Harry, by someone outside of the club?”

She stares at me but tells me, “I’d like to think she wouldn’t, but you don’t truly know until you’re in that situation.”

“She’s making me nervous,” I admit.

She runs her hand over my chest and it’s soothing. “After her mother’s funeral, she’ll be leaving town. You’ve just got to get through the next couple of days.”

As usual, my old lady is what I need to get me through the shit weighing on my mind.

“Now, can you fuck me or do I have to take care of it myself.”

Smirking, I flip her onto her back and cover her body with mine. “I can take care of my old lady.”

Urging me on, she grins. “Prove it.”

Since taking the gavel, my favourite time of day is first thing in the morning when everyone is still asleep. The house is so quiet my own breath is loud. As I wait for the coffee to percolate soft steps breaks the silence. I know Holly’s step, and it’s not one of the kids. The muscles in my shoulders tighten as I look over my shoulder and see Nora carrying Spencer and an empty bottle.

She stops short when she sees me and looks down at the floor.

“You’re making me nervous, considering I keep being told you’ve put it in the past.”

She looks me in the eye and promises, “You don’t need to be.” She takes a deep breath and adds, “I know what would happen to me if I talked. I have too much to lose and I refuse to let Harry take any more from me than he already has.”

With all that she’s said, she moves around my kitchen preparing her son his morning bottle.

I pour my coffee, both of us moving in silence, and while she heads up the stairs, I head outside.

As I round the corner to the bar, Mason’s plotted up on his bike. I walk over and light a cigarette.

“You’re here early.”

“I didn’t wanna take any chances she left early.”

“Good. I’m gonna tell Grim you’re following on account of the Hades Hogs, that we don’t leave alone at the moment.”

“If he’s got his head on right, he’ll see through it.”

“Couldn’t give a shit. This is how it’s going down.”

“What if Harry’s family show up? You want me to step in?”

“If Grim doesn’t handle it, quick, then yeah. Step the fuck in.”

Loose lips sink ships but admitting murder sinks clubs and no one’s going to prison if I can help it.

Chapter Fifteen

Lily

It’s been two days since I saw Hopper at the diner and the few times I’ve turned my phone on, there have been a barrel of voicemails and texts. This time, I listen and read them all. I light my last cigarette and replay the last voicemail.
