I couldn’t help but chuckle. “That’s none of your concern. Just know, today is the day that we let each other go for good. We both deserve to move on and be happy.”

Silence filled the space between us as he stared at me.

I couldn’t tell what he was thinking, but I wanted it to be something along the lines of him agreeing to sign the divorce papers.

Thankfully, I was right on the mark.

My eyes lit up as he pulled the long manila folder from the briefcase that he had on the floor. “Here. I don’t want to hold on to you any longer. I knew getting you back was a longshot, but I would’ve been crazy not to try.”

Still staring at the folder, I said, “Is this what I think it is?”

“Yes, it is.”

I hurried to pull out the documents and flipped right to the last page. There it was…his signature. Unable to hold back my excitement, I hopped out of my seat and wrapped my arms around him. “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

“Damn, you don’t have to seem so happy.”

“I’m sorry, it’s just—”

Smiling, he waved me off. “You don’t have to explain, Nova. I know I’ve given you a hard time throughout this process.”

“You really have.”

“I’m sorry for that. But when you truly love someone, you fight for them, and that’s all I was trying to do.”

I nodded, not wanting to spark up another conversation about how love wasn’t enough.

“Well, thanks again.”

“Yeah,” he replied. “Oh, and I didn’t change anything. That’s the exact document that you sent to me.”

“Oh, I know.”

He laughed. “Have a good life, Nova. I wish you nothing but the best.”

Grabbing my purse, I slid it on my shoulder, and walked towards the door while saying, “I wish you the same.”

The moment I made it outside, I felt the dark cloud slide from above me. I jumped up and down, happy to finally get what I wanted.

I could see the stares as people walked by, but I didn’t give a damn. If they knew my story, they would be jumping up and down too.

Still excited, I pulled my phone from my purse so I could call Izzy. But before I could look for her number, a text came through.

“I know you’re not feeling me right now, but please meet me. I promise it will be worth it.” –Don

At first, I just stared at my cell. I was in too good of a mood to have it destroyed. But Don was usually the one that made everything better. I wasn’t sure if this would be one of those times, or if I needed to just keep it moving.

But there was only one way to find out.

“Where?” –Nova

Once again, I was in an uncertain situation, and I didn’t know how it was all going to pan out. Don asking me to meet him at the movie theater seemed crazy. There were things that needed to be said and we couldn’t do that with a room full of people at the movies.

When I pulled up, I was surprised to see there wasn’t but a handful of cars in the parking lot. But, since this location was known for doing private events, I assumed they were preparing for something.
