Don shot his head back. “Hell yeah, I was pissed. We went back and forth about it for days. I even told her that I was moving back here. But she refused to move back too, and as you know, I wasn’t leaving Dakota.”
“Right.”
“Plus, I’d already found a job and gotten comfortable.”
“Understandable,” I replied with a nod. “So, how did she find out that he was married?”
Sliding his hand down his face, Don said, “This is where the situation gets crazy, and I recognized that I didn’t know Kierra as much as I thought I did.”
Intrigued, I turned in my seat a little, so I could get a good view of him. “Okay, what happened?”
“When I say Kierra was feeling some type of way, I don’t mean that in a light way. She really started to do some crazy shit to find out what he was hiding, and it didn’t take her long.”
“Trust me, it usually doesn’t. Once we set our sights on finding out information, we become skilled detectives.”
“She did that, for sure,” I said. “But honestly, I think she just thought he might have been cheating on her with another woman. That was always her concern. She never expected him to have an entire family on the side,” Don said. “After doing her detective work, she showed up at a birthday dinner that he was throwing for his wife.”
I slammed my hand over my mouth. “Oh my God, did she act a fool?”
“Surprisingly, she didn’t.”
“Really?”
“Nope, not at all. She said she didn’t even make a scene. After she made sure that he saw her, she just left.”
Aggravated, I rolled my eyes and blew out a heavy breath. “There’s no way I would have just left. Everybody in that damn dinner would’ve known who the hell I was. Fuck that!”
“I think she was too in shock by it all. That night she came straight to my place and cried her eyes out. She was devastated.”
“I can imagine. That’s a lot.”
“It is, and I felt horrible for her,” Don said. “But with all of that being said, I just knew it was over between the two of them. Shit, I was praying that it was. I didn’t like the way she seemed during the time that she was so worried about what he was doing. She couldn’t focus on Dakota, and she was always in a funk.”
“Are you telling me that it wasn’t over right then and there?”
He shook his head. “I wish that it was. Had that been the case, she wouldn’t be where she is right now.”
I sighed.
I could feel myself starting to cringe as he went further into detail. If this situation had anything to do with why she was in jail, shit definitely took a horrible turn.
Running his hand down his face, Don said, “So, fast forward about a week. This man had called her phone a million times, showed up at her house, and showed up at her job. Had he known where I lived, he would’ve shown up there too.”
“Men love to do frequent popups after they fuck up. What the hell is wrong with y’all?”
“Nah, don’t put me in that category. I’m not about that life.”
I chuckled. “Which one? The fucking up life or the popup life?”
“Neither. If I’m popping up, it’s on some good shit. It definitely won’t be because I’m out here screwing another chick.”
“Mmhmm.”
“Don’t side-eye me,” he said while laughing. “Trust and believe, if you and I were together there would never be a doubt about you being the only woman I’m with.”
I paused for a moment, his words syncing in.
Sitting up in my seat, I cleared my throat and tried to get back to the conversation. “So, at this point, you’re telling me that they ended up messing around again?”
