“And I did.”

“Okay, well, give me time to do the same.”

He scoffed. “You can’t compare the two. I don’t have a child with her. If you and I end up together, he will be in your life no matter what, and I’ll have to deal with the consequences of that.”

“Law, please—”

“I think you should go.”

My head shot back. “What?”

“I’m sorry, but I need you to go. I’m not happy about this decision either, but it’s for the best.”

“You don’t really believe that.”

“I do.”

Dropping my hands, I sighed in frustration. “Law?”

“Make sure you close the door on your way out.”

I watched as he turned away, my mouth falling open in disbelief.

My heart wouldn’t stop pounding beneath my chest.

I didn’t want to believe it was real. Law wouldn’t leave me. Not after everything we’d shared. But the further his steps took him, the more I realized just how real this moment was. Hewasleaving me, and based on the way he closed the door behind him, he wasn't coming back.

I wasn’t exactly thrilled to see my mother as she strolled through my front door, her eyes looking me up and down. “Why are you still walking around in your underwear? It’s almost one o’clock.”

“And?” I questioned, pushing the door closed. “I don’t have anywhere to be, so there’s no need for me to get dressed.”

“Actually, you do have somewhere to be.”

“Since when?”

“Since I walked through this door. Go get dressed. We’re going to go by your sister’s place.”

“I’m not going over there. The last time I saw her, she made it pretty clear that she didn’t want to deal with me.”

Waving me off, she lifted a pair of my jeans from the floor and a few of my other clothes that hadn’t quite made it to my laundry basket. “That was two days ago. She was just upset and embarrassed.”

“Really? And you heard this from her?”

Glancing over her shoulder, she looked at me like I was stupid. “Yes. Who the hell else would I hear it from?”

I shrugged.

Seeing as her and Tokyo hadn’t been talking, I assumed that my mother was making things up. If my sister was too embarrassed to deal with me, I know damn well she was too embarrassed to deal with her.

“I find it hard to believe that you and Tokyo are talking.”

“Well, believe it,” she said. “When she came over to get Keyon, we had a long talk. Of course, she wasn't really receptive at first. But eventually, she came around. I had to remind her that despite everything, I was still here for her. You just need to do the same.”

“Excuse me?” I replied, jerking my head back. “I tried that. She didn’t want to hear shit I had to say.”
