It didn't take long for Reggie to swing it open. It was almost as if he didn't expect anyone to be coming for his ass, but I made sure that he was aware when I smashed my knuckles into his jaw. He stumbled back a few feet, but regained his composure long enough to dodge my right hook.

The next few moments were spent exchanging punches and sending shit crashing to the floor. I didn’t give a damn about anything that was being destroyed in the process. My only concern was taking Reggie’s ass out, which I was well on my way to doing before Tokyo rush through the door and broke us up.

“Stop this shit!”

Huffing, Reggie struggled to stand up straight.

Running his hand over his bottom lip, he said, “Your brother is really fucked up in the head. He just showed up here and started punching my ass.”

“Really?” Tokyo said, tilting her head to one side. “Is that before or after you pulled a gun on my son for catching you with another bitch?”

“What? Is that what that boy told you?” he chuckled. “It’s the other way around. I caught him in bed with some girl, and when I told him that I was going to tell you, he started acting a fool. He’s the one that pulled a gun on me.”

Frowning, I shook my head.

I didn’t even know how to respond to the lies that were coming from Reggie’s mouth.

“I know you don’t believe this fool?” I said, looking at Tokyo, but she didn’t look my way.

“You really expect me to believe that my son pulled a gun on you?”

“I'm just telling you what happened. I know you think that he's the perfect kid, but you don't have a clue what goes on when you're not here.”

“You’re right, I don’t. But not when it comes to him…it’s when it comes to your sorry ass,” she said, poking her finger into Reggie’s forehead. “You know I have neighbors, right? One of them saw your little side chick rushing out of here.”

Groaning, he said, “I know you’re not talking about Melody? Her bitter ass will tell you anything. She just wants what you have.”

“Nigga, please. I’m not buying that shit for a second. You’re lucky I don’t kill you myself,” she said, moving in even closer to him. “It’s one thing for you to have the balls to bring a tramp into my house, but how dare you pull a gun out on my son. What the hell is wrong with you?”

“Like I said—”

Fuming, Tokyo picked up a piece of glass from the floor and placed the sharp edge inches away from his throat. “Before you say another fucking word, just know that I will slice your throat simply because I can sense you’re about to give me some bullshit. I love you, but I don’t love any man more than I love myself, and I damn sure don’t love you more than I love my son.” The look in her eyes was frightening. Never in my life, had I seen Tokyo so raw and ready to take out another human being with her bare hands.

Reggie didn’t move, and it wasn’t until I heard police sirens in the distance that I eased closer to Tokyo and slowly removed the glass from her trembling hand.

I tried to comfort her, but she shoved me away. “Get out!” she yelled.

“Tokyo—”

“Get the fuck out!”

Reggie didn’t waste any time darting for the door, but I remained, trying my best to make sure that she was okay. “Let me help you clean this place up.”

“Where is my son?”

“He’s at Mama’s.”

Blowing past me, she hurried out of the apartment, but not before saying, “I need to be away from you for a minute.”

“What?”

“Just give me some space, Law.”

Confused, I stopped in my tracks.

Nothing about tonight made sense.

I was constantly getting shitted on for protecting the people that I loved. First, Alauni and now Tokyo. This night couldn’t get any worse.
