She turned her attention back to me, her flared nose and lifted brow letting me know that she was still pretty pissed off from our last conversation.

“Tok—”

“Don’t even try it,” she quickly intervened. “I’m not interested in whatever it is you’re about to say. All I know is you better take my son to see the campus and bring his ass back. This is where he lives.”

I sighed. “You know I wouldn’t take him without your permission, so don’t be like that.”

“Quite frankly, I don’t know what you would do at this point.”

“If that were really the case, you wouldn’t be allowing him to leave with me.”

I knew Tokyo wasn't feeling my request to allow Keyon to live with me, but I wanted her to see that it was in his best interest. These last few months were crucial for him. He was moments away from getting his diploma and stepping into the real world. I wanted it to happen without any hiccups, and Reggie was just that…a damn hiccup.

As if though he could hear my thoughts, Reggie stepped into the living room with a huge grin plastered on his face. “What’s up, Law? I didn’t know you were out here.”

“It wasn’t meant for your ass to know.”

“Okay, you two, please don’t start,” Tokyo said.

“Shit, I’m chilling. Tell your crazy ass brother not to start nothing. Oh, and while you’re at it, tell him to chill on the pop-up visits at the bar too. Your little girlfriend might not be there to break it up next time.”

“The bar?” Tokyo looked at me. “What is he talking about?”

“Nothing important,” I quickly replied and motioned for Keyon to hurry up as he fumbled around in the kitchen.

I didn’t feel the need to explain myself, and I damn sure wasn’t going to do it in front of Reggie’s ass.

“I’ll see you when we get back,” Keyon said before kissing Tokyo on the cheek.

“Mmhmm, you guys be safe.”

“We will.” I could feel Tokyo’s eyes burning a hole in the back of my neck as I turned and headed down the hall. But I ignored it. Placing my hand on Keyon’s shoulder, I said, “So, what’s up, man? You ready to see what Huey has to offer?”

“Most definitely.”

“I think you’ll like it. It’s a nice size and it’s only two hours away, so you’ll be able to come home every weekend.”

Giving me the side-eye, he stepped onto the elevator and pressed the button for the first floor. “I don't know about coming home every weekend. I love y'all, but I'm trying to get out of here.”

“Wow, so it’s like that?” I said, yanking him forward and pulling him into a playful headlock. “You’re just going to go off to college and forget about us?”

“Come on now, Unc.” He laughed. “You know I wouldn’t do that. I’m just saying that I won’t be coming down here that often. I need to get used to being on my own.”

“I’m just messing with you. I know. Honestly, I don’t expect to see your ass for at least six months. You’re going to be too busy training and studying. Oh, and while we’re on the subject, don’t be getting all caught up in those college girls. Focus on your schoolwork. You can’t keep your scholarship if you’re flunking out of school.”

Groaning, he rolled his eyes. “You don’t have to tell me all of that. I got this.”

The elevator doors opened, and I followed him off. “I'm not convinced. Keyon you like the ladies, and the wrong one will have you caught up. Your whole life will change in an instant, if you're not careful.”

“Damn, Unc, you sound like you’re speaking from experience.”

“That’s because I am. I’ve been caught up with the wrong one, and I’m still suffering the consequences behind it.”

Keyon rubbed his hands together and smiled. “Oh, man. This sounds juicy. Tell me more.”

“I’m not telling you anything. Just know that you need to be on the lookout and stay focused.”

“Wow, it must’ve been pretty bad, huh?”
