I could hear my phone ringing in my purse, so I rushed to answer it.
It was Law.
“Hey, where are you?”
The urgency in his voice was the first thing I noticed. “At Denver’s. Why? What’s up?”
“Do you think you can stop by my place on the way home? I need to talk to you about something, and it's pretty important.”
“Yeah, sure? Is everything okay?”
“Honestly, I would much rather wait until we’re face to face.”
I wasn't sure how I should feel about his response, but I definitely felt nervous. For him to not even give me a hint about what he wanted to discuss meant that it was a serious situation.
“Okay, I’ll be there in a few.”
“Great. See you in a bit.”
“Yeah,” I said, my eyebrow lifted.
“Is everything good?” Denver asked, stepping inside and folding his arms over his chest.
“I don’t know. That was Law, and he sounded pretty serious. He wants to talk to me about something. What if this is that bomb that I was just talking about?”
“Don’t even go there. This conversation may not have anything to do with you.”
“I don’t believe that for a second. He wouldn’t want to talk to me about it if it didn’t.”
“Okay, so maybe you have a point, but that doesn’t mean that it’s anything bad. It could have something to do with the team. Aren’t you guys supposed to be taking Keyon on a campus tour in a couple days?”
“Yeah, but I doubt that’s the topic of discussion. I could feel his anxiety through the phone. Something is up.” Grabbing my purse, I stood up. “I better get going.”
“Okay, call me if you need anything. You know I got you.”
Giving Denver a hug, I said, “I know. Thanks.”
“Sure thing.”
Moments later, I was out of the door and inside of my car. My mind was going a mile a minute, and my anxiety was at an all-time high. Whatever Law was about to tell me, I prayed that it wasn't going to be some shit that was going to make me act a fool. I was already stressed when it came to Latrell, I didn’t need any more headache, and I damn sure didn’t need the drama.

Law
I couldn’t stop pacing the floor. The shit with Maxine had me feeling some kind of way, and my decision to tell Alauni had me feeling even worse.
When my doorbell rang, I froze.
Do you really want to do this? I thought to myself, trying to think of any excuse to keep my mouth shut. But nothing made sense. Being straight forward was how I usually handled things, and this time couldn’t be any different.
Rubbing my hands together, I made my way to the door.
As soon as I pulled it open, Alauni barged right in. “What’s going on?”
“Damn, can I get a hug first?”
“That depends, am I going to be pissed off after we talk and want to take that shit back?”
