“I didn’t kick her to the curb.”
“Yes, you did, but it’s cool. I have a feeling that everything is going to change really soon. I mean, it may not be as soon as it could’ve been after me mentioning her baby daddy…”
“You did what?”
“I wasn’t trying to cause a problem. I just—”
Frustrated, I cut him off. “Keyon, what exactly did you say to her?”
“Like I told you, I didn’t get to say too much. As soon as I mentioned you telling us about her baby daddy, she went left.”
“Why would you do that?”
Tokyo entered the room. “Come on, baby, it’s time to head over to your date’s house. The limo is here.”
Clearing my throat, I leaned in to whisper, “You better be glad your Mama walked in.”
Keyon smiled and placed his hand on my shoulder. “Trust me, I am.”
He took one last look at himself in the mirror and headed towards the living room.
My hands were itching to grab him by the neck, but I refrained. Like always, Keyon was just being Keyon. But I also knew that he wanted things to work out between Alauni and me.
As much as I hated to admit it, this shit should have been handled by now. One minute, I was ready to have a conversation with her, then the next, I was worried about all of the things that could go wrong.
What if she wasn’t interested in pursuing things with me anymore.
Without even trying, I kept finding ways to piss her off and it didn’t look like I was going to be able to change that anytime soon.
After taking a few pictures of Keyon in front of the limo at Tokyo's apartment, we headed to Ashlynn's and took several more. By the time we were done, everyone was annoyed and ready to do anything but look at a camera.
My mind wouldn’t stop racing as I sped down the road. I wasn’t sure where I was going, but I needed to do something to get all of this bullshit out of my head.
But I couldn’t.
Every other thought involved Alauni. Her ass was embedded in my brain, and I wasn’t going to get any relief until we had a conversation.
Taking a deep breath, I swerved into the nearest gas station and turned around so I could head in the direction of the school. Granted, that probably wasn’t the best place to have a discussion with her, but what I had to say couldn’t wait.
When I made it to the school, I was greeted by several students as they strolled into the gym. I couldn’t help but feel nervous about my decision to do this now, but I reminded myself that I didn’t have any other options. If I would have waited another second, I would have found another reason to keep my feelings to myself.
“Hey, Coach,” Denver said as I stepped into the gym.
We gave each other the one shoulder hug.
I glanced around the room, admiring all of the decorations.A Winter Night in Paris, was this year’s theme, which meant an endless number of white balloons, lights and stars covered the room.
Aside from Denver, Alauni was the first face I saw, and she definitely caught me by surprise.
I was expecting for the teenagers to go all out, but apparently, Alauni made it a point to do the same. With her hair pulled into a neat bun and curly strands hanging strategically over her face, she looked gorgeous. The way her white dress sparkled from afar, made it hard to take my eyes off of her.
“She looks good, doesn’t she?” Denver whispered into my ear.
“Um…yeah. I didn’t expect her to be so dressed up.”
“Oh, well, you don’t know Alauni. She lives for stuff like this. I mean, she complains about having to do it, but she’s always going to come dressed to kill. You should have seen her at her high school prom.”
“You don’t even have to tell me. If she looks this good as a teacher, I can only imagine what she looked like as a teenager.”
